There will be two optional unofficial events at this comp for a bit of fun and something different! Of course, neither of these events will be recorded in your WCA profile, and although there will be healthy competition, the main purpose is to have fun and do something new.

IMPORTANT: To sign up for Team Blind and/or the 3x3 Mirror Block events, please complete this form https://forms.gle/enKun39bGYvR6bJj7

3x3 Mirror Block Guidelines

  • The event will run similar to regular WCA regulations, with a 15 second inspection and the usual penalties
  • Competitors will need to provide their own puzzle, as usual. The 3x3 mirror block must be in a single colour (usually silver/gold).
  • The time limit is 2:00 and the format is AO5 (average of 5 solves)
  • This event is limited to the first 30 people who sign up

Team Blind Guidelines
Team Blindfolded is an event where a team of two competitors cooperatively solve the 3x3 cube. One competitor, the "caller," communicates what moves to do to the other competitor, the "solver," who performs the moves.

  • This event is limited to the first 24 people who sign up
  • If you wish, you can nominate who you would like to be paired with using the form above, but the final say will be up to the organisers.
  • The time limit is 4:00 and the format is BO3 (best of 3 solves)
  • The caller and solver are permitted to swap roles between solves if they wish.

Instructions for Team Blind
We will follow the WCA Regulations as best as possible. The relevant changes are:

Starting/Stopping the solve
1. The solver must have a blindfold on before the inspection period begins.
2. The competitors will be given the usual 15 seconds of inspection with warnings at 8 and 12. Both members can touch the cube during this time and both competitors can communicate
3. Only the solver may start/stop the timer.

During the solve
1. Unlike blindfold solving, no paper will be placed between the solver and the cube. Because of this, the solver should place the cube so that the blindfold is clearly obstructing the line of sight, but this will not be enforced. Competitors who violate this rule and peek out from the blindfold will be disqualified, as expected.
2. Both competitors may talk to each other (and the judge) during the solve, but not to anyone else.
3. At no point during the solve can the caller touch the cube.
4. Please speak at a reasonable volume during the solve and try not to eavesdrop on other pairs!

Once again, the purpose of these events is to have a bit of fun so we hope that people will have a fair and positive attitude and not take it too seriously :)

Live results will be provided via WCALive. It may take up to an hour between times being set and them appearing online.

The first rounds of all events will be run in groups. These groups are pre-determined. It is important that you know which groups of each event you are in. A summary of groups can be found here while you can find an individual card with your groups here. Each competitor will be provided with a printed copy of their invididual group numbers at registration.

Throughout the competition we will also need judges, runners and scramblers. Do not hesitate to ask if you can be helpful in some way! If you have any questions about the groups please email us at support@speedcubing.org.au

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
