Sydney Re-Open 2021 Series

This competition is being organised as a twin competition with separate competitions on both Saturday and Sunday. Competitors may compete at only ONE of the two competitions. The intention is to enable as many pepople as possible to compete in a COVID-safe manner, and to give competitors a choice of events/days.

It is possible to switch your registration between Saturday or Sunday provided there is no waiting list for the other competition by contacting the organisational team by 19 March 2021.

We hope to hold many more competitions in the Sydney area in 2021. To find out as they are announced you can sign up to the Speedcubing Australia mainling list. Holding competitions safely will continue to be a top priority for us as they become possible in NSW.

COVID-safe competitions

The Sydney Re-Open 2021 twin competitions are designed to operate in a COVID-safe manner and to comply with local government restrictions. These government restrictions may change, which could require changing the nature of, or cancelling the competition at late notice.

Below are some COVID related FAQs:

Q. Will there be an attendee limit at this competition?
Yes, in order to comply with state laws regarding COVID restrictions (the two square metre rule), there is a limit of one guest per competitor.

Q. Will this competition be following the additional procedures in the WCA Competition Safety Policy and WCA Temporary Regulations?
No. Given the near-zero community transmission in NSW this competition has had the additional restrictions of the WCA Competition Safety Policy waived. This means the competition will run closer to normal without the use of the Temporary Regulations. This means we will have a competitor waiting area and competitors won't be assigned a fixed station and judge while competing, dramatically increasing the number of events and competitors we can have in the given time.

However, this competition will still require all attendees use the QR-code check-in, hand sanitizer will be made available, and face masks are strongly encouraged. Competitors and guests will not be permitted to enter the venue if they are experiencing COVID symptoms.

Q. Will hand sanitiser be provided at the competition?
Yes. Upon entering the venue there will be a personal hygiene station equipped with a supply of hand sanitiser.

Q. Do I have to wear a face mask?
No, at this stage wearing face masks is not mandatory. However, it is encouraged. The competition will follow all government restrictions, and restritions on face-masks may change between now and the competition.

Q. What actions can competitors and spectators take to be COVID-safe?
Competitors and guests should wash and sanitize their hands frequently, and the wearing of masks is encouraged. It is recommended competitors bring their own waterbottle and do not share food and drink with others. The sharing of puzzles between competitors is also discouraged - competitors should bring all their required puzzles to the competition. Competitors are encouraged to avoid carpools with people from different household groups.

Q. Where can I ask other questions?
Feel free to email us through this page.
