Competitor List

Registrants must pay the registration fee in order to be added to the competitor list. Organizers manually accept registrations one at a time in the order the registration fees are paid, so you may have to wait a while before your name could show up on the competitor list.

Once the competitor list reaches the 60 person competitor limit, registrants who pay the registration fee will be added to the waiting list instead of the competitor list. Due to the competitor limit, completing your registration within the initial registration period does not guarantee you a spot on the competitor list.

Waiting List

The waiting list is ordered based on the timestamp that registrants paid the registration fee. For privacy reasons, this list is not available to the public. If you are added to the waiting list you will be informed via an email from the Organization team.

Anyone on the waiting list who wishes to be removed from the waiting list may contact the organizers to delete their registration and be refunded 90% of their registration fee.

If the competitor list fills up quickly, registration could close earlier than the originally listed date (June 14, 2024). The waiting list will close at the same time that registration closes.

If anyone on the competitor list deletes their registration, the person at the top of the waiting list will be moved to the competitor list. After registration closes (June 14, 2024, at latest), the competitor list will be finalized and registrants who are still on the waiting list will be refunded 100% of their registration fee.

How do I register for this competition?

You'll need a WCA Account to register. Once registration has opened, you can register at the register button to your left. Select the events you'll be competing in and any comments you'd like the organization team to know. After pressing Register, you'll be prompted to pay using Stripe. You must pay your registration fee to be eligible to compete. If there is still space in the competition and you do not receive an email saying your registration has been accepted within 48 hours of paying, please contact the organization team.

Who should I ask if I have any questions?

Before the competition, you can contact the organization team at info+stjohns2024@speedcubingcanada.org. During the competition, you can speak to a delegate.

How old do I have to be to compete?

WCA competitions are open to cubers of any age! We do not have age groups so all competitors compete with each other. For some events, the groups will be sorted by speed, so you will be competing against cubers around the same speed.

What do I need to bring to the competition?

You'll need to bring the puzzles required for any event you'll be competing in. Most competitors like to bring other cubes to warm up with. All timing equipment will be supplied by the WCA Delegates at the competition.

How can I prepare for the competition day?

Competitors should understand the WCA Regulations before competing. We will have a New Competitor Tutorial at the beginning of the day where you can learn and ask questions. We also recommend watching the videos below to get familiar with the competing process.

What should I expect at my first competition?

Please watch these short videos:

The groups for the competition and live results can be found here once registration has closed.

These groups are when you are assigned to compete, judge and/or scramble during an event you are registered for.

Per Regulations 1e2 and 1f2, all competitors must be available to help judge and scramble. If you're unsure how to judge, please review the WCA Regulations, watch this video, or ask one of the WCA Delegates at the competition.

Please plan to arrive to each of your groups five minutes before it is scheduled to begin. Showing up excessively late to your group may result in not being allowed to compete in that event.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
