Information

CubingZA is excited to announce Please Be Clocked Cape Town 2024! This competition has a full array of blindfolded events, with Clock and 5x5 to mix things up.
Don't forget that to participate you need to register for the competition in the "Register" tab, and make payment by buying a ticket. Please see payment details below. Important - if we do not have enough competitors to hold 3x3 Blindfolded Round 2, we will adjust the schedule to have 2 Rounds of 5x5 instead.

PLEASE NOTE This competition does NOT have 3x3 or other popular events like 2x2 or Pyraminx. If you are a newcomer, please do not register unless you are able to solve cubes Blindfolded or would like to participate in the 5x5 or Clock events.

SPECTATORS

Spectators are only allowed as companions to competitors.

VOLUNTEERING

Please note that all competitors are required to assist with volunteering during the competition - either in the role of "runner", "judge" or "scrambler".

If any competitor or competitor's guests are willing to help judge with the blindfolded events, especially Multiple Blindfolded, please let us know. If you are able to assist with judging the longer events (4x4 Blindfolded, 5x5 Blindfolded, and Multiple Blindfolded), we will reward you with a free coffee, chocolate, or other small gift :)

* If you haven't both registered for the competition (Step 2) and paid for a ticket (Step 3), you will not be able to compete.

This competition is mostly for blindfolded events where the competing area must be quiet during each round. We have added Clock to throw in a bit of excitement in between and give the blindfolded solvers a mental break.

All competitors will need to help with judging - judging for blindfolded events is a bit different to normal competitions. The competitor will remove the cover themselves after starting the timer - there is no inspection time. The judge will then start the stopwatch and leave it running while the competitor memorizes and solves during (additional stopwatch only used for 4BLD, 5BLD and MultiBLD). Once the competitor dons their blindfold and starts turning the puzzle, the judge must either hold up a sight blocker, or ensure that the competitor has a 'harmonica holder' with a cover on it.

For 4BLD and 5BLD, there is a 90 minute cumulative time limit. If at any point the competitor's total time for all attempts in these two events goes over 90 minutes, the attempt must be stopped, and the remaining attempts will be DNF. For MultiBLD, the judge must stop the competitor as soon as the stopwatch reaches 60 minutes (1 hour). Any further turning of any puzzle will result in a DNF.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced across rounds (see Guideline A1a2++).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
