Mini-sota Heartland Warm-Up II 2026 has been selected as one of the first test competitions for Dual Rounds! This is an exciting new format in which all competitors will be allowed to participate in both the first and second rounds. The best result (average, with ties broken by single) each competitor achieves in either of the two rounds will be used to determine the final rankings for advancement to Clock Finals (top 75%). Competitors who do not participate in the first round are still eligible to participate in the second round.

It is possible that dual rounds at this competition will be cancelled with very short notice if technical issues are discovered in the software implementation. If this occurs, we will revert to using traditional rounds for Clock.

This competition will also test the new Integrated Live Results system. Live results will be available at this link instead of WCA Live.

Here are some of the WCA Regulations which describe how Dual Rounds work:

  • 9v) Two consecutive rounds of an event may be designated as Dual Rounds.
  • 9v1) Dual Rounds may include only the first two rounds of an event.
  • 9v2) Dual Rounds must not include the final round of a National Championship, Continental Championship, or World Championship.
  • 9v3) Dual Rounds must have the same format, cutoff, and time limit.
  • 9v4) The competitor's ranking in Dual Rounds is based on the better result of either round.
  • 9v4a) The results of both rounds are recorded and are eligible for the WCA world rankings (see Regulation 9i) and regional records (see Regulation 9i1).
  • 9v5) No competitors are eliminated between rounds during Dual Rounds.
  • 9v5a) Competitors with no results in the first round or results of only DNF and/or DNS in the first round are eligible to advance to the second round.

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.

Advancement Condition

The number of competitors shown as advancing to the next round is the planned maximum. The actual number may be lower if there are fewer competitors than expected, or if there are ties at the boundary.
