Thank you participating in Long Beach Spring 2022!

In order to make this event run as smooth as possible, please familiarize yourself with the WCA Regulations.

If this is your first time competing, it may be intimidating when you first walk in. To mitigate this, please watch this video that explains the basics of a cubing competition. Note that some changes have been made to competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Any changes will be explained in the competitor tutorial.

Here are some frequently asked questions:

Q: Do I use my own cube to compete?
A: Yes, and they must comply with the WCA Regulations.

Q: Can I add or remove an event from my registration?
A: Not a problem. Send us a message through the contact link, and we will gladly change the events for which you are signed up.

Q: What are cutoffs?
A: Cutoffs are times that competitors must reach within their first two solves in order to perform the remaining three solves of the average. (For events like 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 that are based on a mean of three solves, competitors must be under the cutoff on their first solve to continue their mean.) We use them because we would like to expedite the competition as much as possible while still being fair.

Q: Can I come spectate?
A: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that only competitors attend. Competitors will each be permitted to bring one guest.

Q: Do I have to be present for events I'm not competing in?
A: No. You only have to be at the venue for the events in which you are competing. Click the schedule tab for more information. With that said, we recommend that you arrive early to give ample time to practice before competing.

Q: How do I find results?
A: Live results will be available on wcalive.com during the competition. This is also where you will find if you moved onto the 2nd round of any event. Once finalized, the results are posted on the WCA competition page.

Q: What is there to do when I'm not competing?
A: There are numerous tables where people can practice and hang out with other cubers.

Q: Are there age divisions?
A: All competitors compete in the same group.

All returning competitors will be required to staff throughout the competition, whether it be through judging, scrambling, running, entering results, or just general help. First time competitors are also highly recommended to get involved with staffing. If you are unaware of how to staff, it will be explained in the competitor tutorial. For some extra instruction, you can watch this video that explains the basics of a cubing competition and how to correctly staff.

To ensure the safety of attendees, we ask attendees to follow these guidelines:

Attendees are REQUIRED to provide proof of a negative COVID test (PCR or rapid) from less than 72 hours before the start of the competition.
Submission forms for COVID tests will be emailed to the registrants 3 days before the start of the competition.

  • Each competitor is limited to one guest.
  • Attendees are highly encouraged to stay at least 3 feet (1 meter) apart for the entirety of the competition
  • While it is not required, all attendees are highly recommended to wear face-coverings that cover their mouth and nose at all times.
  • All competitors showing symptoms of COVID-19 or who have been exposed to COVID-19 in the 2 weeks before the competition must not attend the competition.
  • We will provide hand sanitizer, masks, and disinfecting wipes to everyone in attendance, and we encourage attendees to regularly sanitize.

By registering for this competition you agree that you understand and will follow all the information listed above.

Travel
If you are traveling by plane, the venue is a 10 minute drive from the Long Beach Airport, and a roughly 1 hour to drive from LAX. Interstate 405 and Pacific Coast Highway both cross through Long Beach, making them easy routes to take to the venue from long distances by car.

Food
There are many restaurant options within a 5 minute driving distance and a 10 minute walking distance from the venue.

Parking
A total of 56 parking spots (red) will be available in the parking lot attached to the venue itself (yellow), which includes 5 handicap spots. There will be additional parking in the surrounding neighborhood located next to the school. All parking is free of charge.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
