Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the unofficial event at this competition?
The unofficial event for this competition is an unofficial 3x3 solve. Across all five of our Perth Summer competitions (Cubing with the Cows 2020, South Perth Summer 2020, York Cube Day 2021, Pinjarra Puzzle Party 2021 and Showground Showdown 2021), we will be holding an unofficial 3x3 solve. These solves will be combined to create a set of five solves. At the finale (Showground Showdown 2021), we will give out awards to the top three fastest averages of five, and the three fastest singles.

If a competitor is looking to get an average of five, but they can not attend one of these competitions, this will be recorded as a DNS (did not solve). Therefore, in order to get an average of five, competitors must attend at least four of the five competitions. Please contact us here if you have any questions.

Q. How can I change my events?
You must make any change to your registered events by the 22nd of November. Please contact us through this page detailing your event changes.

Q. What time should I arrive at the competition?

COVID-19 FAQ

Q. Will there be an attendee limit at this competition?
Yes, in order to comply with state laws regarding COVID restrictions, there is a limit of one guest per competitor.

Q. Will hand sanitiser and face masks be provided at the competition?
Yes. Upon entering the venue there will be a personal hygiene station equipt with a supply of hand sanitiser and face masks.

Q. Do I have to wear a face mask?
No, wearing face masks is not mandatory. However, it is recommended by delegates as per the World Cube Association Competition Safety Policy in order to limit the potential spread of the virus.

Q. Can I bring my own face mask and/or hand sanitiser?
Yes, it is recommended that you bring your own face mask and hand sanitiser bottle. However, these will still be provided at the venue for attendee use.

Q. Will there be social distancing at the competition?
Yes. Attendees will be instructed to keep at least 1m (3ft) apart. There will also be a limit of one competitor and one judge per table who will be instructed to stay 1m apart, unless closer proximity is required by the regulations (e.g. for the judge to lift the cube cover for an attempt). Runners will also need to maintain social distancing unless required to place a cube on a solving station. The competition will use fixed solving stations meaning no competitor waiting area will be required.
Please contact Speedcubing Australia if you have any further questions.

Q. Will the scramblers be putting slippery hand sanitiser on my cubes?
Nope! Before handing in your cubes for each round you will be required to spray your cube with a light spray of disinfectant, which should dry quickly before you even hand your cube in. This will help stop the potential spread of the virus while avoiding slippery cubes due to other sanitisation methods.

Q. Can I still borrow other peoples' cubes?
No. In order to stop the potential spread of the virus, competitors and attendees will not be allowed to borrow other peoples' cubes.
Please make sure your cubes are legal for competition, especially for events such as 3x3 blindfolded (no logos!). All of the information regarding cube legality can be found in the WCA Regulations. If you are unsure about this please don't hesitate to contact Speedcubing Australia with any questions.

Q. Where can I ask other questions?
Feel free to email us through this page.
