Call for Applicants - WST Members (July 2019)

Announced by William Gan Wei Ren (颜伟仁) on

The WCA Software Team (WST) is looking for new members! The applications are open to everyone; it’s not a requirement to hold a current position in the WCA to be considered. The WST plays a central role on the WCA developing, scaling, and maintaining the software solutions that help the organization handle the continuous community growth. Some examples of such software solutions are:

  • A website
  • TNoodle
  • Workbook Assistant

All of the above are open-sourced and can be found on the WCA’s GitHub. The technologies used on these projects is very varied: Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, CSS, MySQL, Chef, React, Java, etc, so developers of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply!

Interested applicants should reach out to Alberto Pérez de Rada Fiol (WST’s Project Manager) at afiol@worldcubeassociation.org with an introduction of themselves that includes their experience as developers. Adding activities done for the WCA and goals as a team member is a plus.

Among the projects the team has, the ones we are trying to deliver first are:

  1. Website redesign:

    • To port the remaining parts of the old PHP website to RoR
    • To implement an already prepared redesign
  2. WCA Live

    • To build a modern platform for live results able to communicate with the other softwares
  3. WCA Forum

    • Provide a Discourse forum with several integrations

Applicants will be asked to contribute to the projects before being formally invited to the team. For this purpose, and specifically for the website, we have labeled some issues as good first issues and good second issues.

Successful applicants will be added to the team on a rolling basis. It’s worth noting that the WST is always looking for new members, so we encourage interested developers to reach out to us at any time!

Thank you for your applications and support!
