Incident: Non-permitted timers were used

Status: Resolved

7f1a

VancouverIsland2019

Incident description and resolution:

At Vancouver Island 2019, a Yuxin timer was used during official attempts of several events. The WRC decided to disqualify the rounds where it was used, namely, 3x3x3 Cube, 4x4x4 Cube, 5x5x5 Cube, 3x3x3 One-Handed, and Megaminx.

Per Regulation 8a7 (2018-01-01 WCA Regulations version; now declared by Regulation 7f1a) only Speed Stacks Stackmat timers were allowed to be used at official competitions.

8a) An official WCA competition must:
...
8a7) Use the authentic Speed Stacks Stackmat timer (Generation 2, Generation 3 Pro Timer, or Generation 4 Pro Timer) for time measurement.

The main reason for disallowing Yuxin timers is their quality, in particular they sometimes can run with a different speed and measure times incorrectly, which might be not noticeable, especially during fast events.
