Incident: Score sheets were used as cube covers in some events of a competition

Status: Resolved

A2c1 A2c1+ scramble-secrecy

HanoiOpen2022

Incident description and resolution:

At Hanoi Open 2022, score sheets were used instead of appropriate cube covers for certain events (Clock, Pyraminx, and Megaminx) in violation of Regulation A2c1:

A2c1) The scrambler places a cover over the scrambled puzzle that makes it impossible for any competitors or spectators to see any part of the puzzle. The cover remains over the puzzle until the start of the attempt.

Guideline A2c1+ also explicitly prohibits the use of score sheets as covers:

A2c1+) REMINDER In the past, score sheets have been used to cover puzzles while leaving some sides exposed. This is no longer permitted.

Although there is no evidence that anyone actively tried to cheat, the WRC agreed that this is a serious violation of scramble secrecy, therefore all the results from Clock, Pyraminx, and Megaminx had been removed. This decision also follows the precedent from Cavite Open 2 2018 (see this incident log).
