Incident: A competitor asked for an extra after stopping the timer

Status: Resolved

11e 11e+

NorthStarCubingChallenge2022

Incident description and resolution:

A competitor claimed to be distracted in a 4x4x4 Blindfolded attempt with a DNF result, after finishing the solve, but before finishing the attempt (before signing the score sheet). Delegates granted the competitor an extra attempt as per Regulation 11e.

WRC further discussed this incident and agreed that the original attempt should stay.

When an incident occurs during the attempt, a competitor has three options, each with their own benefits and risks:
1. Immediately stop the attempt and request the extra.
2. Keep the attempt running and appeal for an extra, as per Guideline 11e+.
3. Finish the attempt and then try to request the extra.

WRC highly recommends the competitors to choose the first or the second option as the WCA Delegate will be able to better determine the fairness of the appeal and exclude the possibility that the competitor based their request on the result of their solve.
