Registration Process

Before You Register

All prospective registrants need a WCA account. New competitors can create their own WCA account by clicking here and entering the required information.

How to Register Online

Prospective competitors register by:
1. Signing into their WCA account;
2. Clicking "Register" on the left side of this webpage, selecting the events they would like to compete in, and submitting their registration;
3. Paying the registration fee of $15. (The registration fee is the same regardless of how many events are selected.) Your registration is not complete until you have paid the registration fee.

The competitor limit for this competition is 100. The list of approved competitors can be found by clicking "Competitors" on the left side of this webpage. If there are already 100 competitors on that list, it means the competition is full, and any future registrants will be placed on the waitlist.

Competitors MUST register and pay online in order to compete. No at-the-door registrations or payments will be accepted.

Any requested changes to registration before Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:59 PM EDT will be honored. Your registration is not complete until your name shows up on the list.

How to Pay for Registration Online

Payment is processed through Stripe. Click on the "Register" tab on the left side of the webpage to register and pay all in one place! You can start the payment process by clicking "Pay your fees with card."

Refunds

Approved competitors who cancel their registration before Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:59 PM EDT are eligible for a refund for half (50%) of their registration cost. After this date, no refund requests will be honored. Filing chargebacks from your credit card or Stripe affects our ability to run competitions; we reserve the right not to honor your future registrations if you file a chargeback.

Waitlist Information

If this competition fills, competitors who register will be added to the waitlist. In order to secure a place on the waitlist, you must pay the registration fee. If enough spots open up before Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:59 PM EDT, you will be notified and accepted to the competition. After that deadline, all remaining competitors on the waitlist will be emailed letting them know they did not get off the waitlist and will be fully refunded.

As per rules of the venue, all non-PEA competitors under 18 years old must be supervised by an adult at all times during the competition.

The event will be held in Grainger Auditorium, which is on the first floor of Phelps Science Center.

For parking, there is a public lot at the Main Street School. The address is 40 Main St, Exeter, NH 03833. If that lot is full, there is also additional parking in and around the parking garage on campus: Chadwick Ln, Exeter, NH 03833, and the Lincoln Street School: 25 Lincoln St, Exeter, NH 03833, although both are a 5-10 minute walk from the venue. We recommend arriving a little early to scope out the parking locations to make sure there are spots available.

There are two hotels within a mile of the venue:
Hampton Inn & Suites Exeter, 59 Portsmouth Ave, Exeter, NH 03833
The Exeter Inn, 90 Front St, Exeter, NH 03833

For dining options, there are many restaurants within walking distance of the venue. There is a small chance that catering may be provided to the public. Catering will definitely be provided for staff and organizers, and highly likely for interscholastic tournament competitors.

As per rules of the venue, all non-PEA competitors under 18 years old must be supervised by an adult at all times during the competition.

This is my first competition, how does it work?
Welcome! We're glad that you'll be joining us!

Before the competition, we recommend reviewing the WCA Regulations, the WCA's tutorial, and this video which covers the basics of competing. We will be hosting a new competitor tutorial before the competition starts, check the schedule for details.

Do I use my own cube?
Yes, you will need to bring your own for each puzzle you're competing in.

How old do I have to be to compete?
Our events are competitors of all ages. Most competitors are between 10 and 16 years old, though we often have competitors as young as 7, and as old as 50+, so regardless of your age, you won't be out of place!

Where are results posted?
During the competition, we'll be posting live results on WCA Live.

When should I arrive?
Take a look at the "Schedule" tab. If this is your first competition, we recommend arriving before the New Competitor Tutorial begins. You can leave after your last event ends, or you are welcome to stay as long as you'd like.

What if I have more questions?
You can use the "Contact" link on the "General info" tab to reach the organizers and WCA Delegates. During the competition, feel free to ask any of us if you have any questions -- most of us will be wearing blue polo shirts.

What is Cube New England?
Cube New England is a 501(c)(3) non-profit which organizes competitions in New England. You can find more information on our website.

About the Competition
Continuing the legacy of Brandon Liu, Exeter class of 2017, and James Wang, Exeter class of 2019, who organized Phillips Exeter Cube Day 2015 and 2016, we (the coheads of Exeter's speedcubing club, now class of 2027) are dedicated to revive this annual tradition. There will also be an unofficial interscholastic tournament in the afternoon, where we'll invite many of our peer schools to compete in an exciting showdown---feel free to stick around and watch!

The top 3 competitors in each event will receive certificates; prizes may be announced at a later date.

The winning school of the interscholastic tournament will be awarded with a carved perpetual trophy, and will have the privilage to organize next year's New England Interscholastic Speedcubing Tournament.

Interested in helping out?

Our competitions rely on all competitors to help out with juding, scrambling, and running. The volunteer staff is generally expected to help out for the whole day, not just events they're competing in, especially with:
* Running
* Scrambling
* Data Entry
* Miscellaneous jobs that come up throughout the day
* Later Rounds, where we don't have job assignments

If you are interested in helping out, please apply via this form no later than Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:59 PM EDT. We often have more applicants than we're able to accept; apologies if this is the case. If you are selected, you'll receive catered lunch and refunded registration.

Note: Registration fees are only refunded after the competition, assuming that you fulfill the expectations of the job.

NEISCL 2025 EVENTS

The time limit for all events is 10 minutes.

4:00 – 4:20 Team Relay

Each team sends 3 competitors, each solving a 3x3 in a relay format, similar to the Rubik’s Nations Cup at Worlds. 15 seconds of inspection will be given to all competitors, then the first competitor will begin solving and the other two competitors must place their palms on their timers. Once one competitor finishes the solve, the second competitor may begin. The final times are added and scored with the following formula, where t is time in seconds:

P(t) = 2400*t^(-0.25)

1000pts: 31 seconds
900pts: 43 seconds
800pts: 1 minute 2 seconds

4:25 – 4:35 Pressure Solve

Each team sends 1 competitor to solve one 3x3. The same rules apply for an official solve, 15 seconds of inspection, etc. Before the solve, the solver will guess their time to the second decimal place (i.e., hundredths of a second). If the guessed time is slower, the recorded time is the guessed time. If the solve time is slower, the recorded time is the solve time plus the difference between the guessed/solve times. The total time is scored with the following formula, where t is time in seconds. DNF’s count as 0 points.

P(t) = 2000*t^(-0.30)

1000pts: 10 seconds
900pts: 14 seconds
800pts: 21 seconds

4:40 – 4:50 3x3 Team Solve

Each team sends 2 competitors to solve a single 3x3. One competitor holds the cube with only their right hand, and the other only with their left. Again, the same standards apply as with an official solve. Only having one person turning the cube is not permitted. Both competitors have to make a reasonable number of turns during the solve, at the discretion of the judge. The total time is scored with the following formula, where t is time in seconds.

P(t) = 2400*t^(-0.29)

1000pts: 21 seconds
900pts: 29 seconds
800pts: 44 seconds

4:55 – 5:05 2x2 Team Blind

Each team sends 2 competitors to solve a 3x3, one of whom will be blindfolded and be the solver. The other competitor will be the instructor, and will be the one conveying the moves to the solver. The instructor is given 15 seconds of inspection, after which they must place the cube down on the solver's mat. The instructor will relay the first few moves to the solver, after which the solver will start the timer. Moves are conveyed by the instructor throughout the solve until the solved state is reached. The total time is scored with the following formula, where t is time in seconds.

P(t) = 2000*t^(-0.30)

1000pts: 10 seconds
900pts: 14 seconds
800pts: 21 seconds

5:10 – 5:30 Speed FMC

Each team sends 3 competitors, working simultaneously to create a solution to a given scramble with the fewest moves in a 10-minute time limit. Competitors may communicate during the attempt, and all moves of the final submission must be written down in standard notation (a notation reference sheet will be supplied on request). At the end of the time limit, each team will submit one solution. The final move count is scored with the following formula, where m is moves in the half-turn metric.

P(t) = 7000*m^(-0.53)

1000pts: 39 moves
900pts: 48 moves
800pts: 60 moves

5:35 – 5:50 Match the Scramble

Each team sends 3 competitors to each match an initially solved cube to a given scrambled cube. Competitors are given 15 seconds of inspection and may pick up and observe the scrambled cube throughout the solve. However, competitors will receive a DNF if they turn or alter the scrambled cube in any way. The first person to match the scramble should stop the timer. The time is scored with the following formula, where t is time in seconds.

P(t) = 1400*t^(-0.08)

1000pts: 1 minute 7 seconds
900pts: 4 minute 10 seconds
800pts: Unattainable (beyond time limit of 10 minutes)

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
