Regulations
15 Puzzle
- Puzzle is scrambled according to the notation from cstimer/speedsolving, with combinations of R, D, L, and U with 2’s and 3s to represent moving 2 or 3 pieces (for example R2 moves 2 pieces to the right.
- A +2 would be defined as being 1 move away, where a move means one of the sequences above like R or U3.
- If one piece would pop out, it should be placed back where it was.
- If two or more pieces would pop out and the puzzle is reassembled in an unsolvable state, the competitor is allowed to take out the pieces to make it solveable. the competitor is not allowed to manually remove pieces in any other case.
3x3x3 Team-Blind
Solve a 3x3x3 as a team between two competitors, a solver who is blindfolded but can touch the cube, and a caller can call commands to the solvsd, but is not allowed to touch the cube (or the solver). There is no inspection time.
Corner Helicopter 2x2
- Standard NxN regulations apply.
- There are three types of +2 misalignment penalties:
- a face turn over 45 degrees
- an edge turn over 90 degrees
- a corner turn over 60 degrees.
- Two or more of these is a DNF.
- Single letter moves in scrambles indicate face turns as they would on a 2x2.
- Double letter moves in scrambles indicate edge turns by position. (On a solved puzzle, UF means to turn the white-green edge.)
- Triple letter moves in scrambles indicate corner turns by position. (On a solved puzzle, UFR means to turn the white-green-red corner.)
- Due to the length of scrambles and time required to solve the puzzle if it is misscrambled, incorrect scrambles are allowed as long as the 2x2 is scrambled correctly.
Face-Turing Octahedron
- Regulations based on Skewb.
Magic/Master Magic/Cap on Pen
- Competitors may do practice solves (for less than a minute) and will start their official attempts when they confirm they are starting official attempts.
- The judge will not scramble or cover the puzzle. The competitor is responsible for returning the puzzle to its 'scrambled' state.
- The puzzle must be completely flat on the table.
- See 2011 WCA Regulations for full guidance
- Cap on Pen specific: The pen cannot be altered with lube or other modifications.
Mirror Blocks
Regulations based on 3x3x3 Cube.
- Legality of the puzzle:
- All sides of the puzzle must be clearly identifiable from each other (i.e. have distinct thicknesses on each side).
- All stickers / pieces of the puzzle must be the same color with no way of distinguishing one color from another.
- Scrambling procedures:
- The scrambler holds the cube with the biggest corner in the up-front-left position and the thickest layer as the up face.
3x3x3 Assembly
- Procedure:
- The competitor will hand their puzzle to the judge, who will disassemble the puzzle and place all pieces of the puzzle into the cube cover. The center caps must be attached to the core. The judge will then place the cube cover with the disassembled puzzle on the mat, upside down.
- Once the Competitor indicates that they are ready, the judge will lift the cover with a disassembled 3x3x3 puzzle.
- The competitor will have 15 seconds to sort the pieces before starting the timer. Regular inspection penalties will apply (+2 for ≧15 seconds, DNF for ≧17 seconds).
- The competitor will assemble the puzzle into the solved state, then stop the timer.
- Legality of the puzzle:
- Must be legal to compete in an official round of 3x3x3 cube.
- Solved state:
- The puzzle must be fully assembled. Partially detached pieces are not considered solved (Penalty: DNF).
- If the puzzle is 1 move away from being solved, a +2 second penalty must be applied.
- The puzzle is considered not solved if it requrires 2 or more moves to solve the puzzle (Penalty: DNF).
Links to group sheets and live results for official and unofficial events will be added closer to the competition date.
Our WCA competitions are open to all ages and competitors. If you are interested in signing up for this competition as your first WCA competition, read this page. If you have any questions, reach out to an organizer via email or ask in-person at the competition.
All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. This video gives a fun overview of the rules.
Also, please be familiar with how to judge at a cubing competition. All competitors will be required to judge at least once in the events they are competing in. This video gives a basic overview of how to judge. If you have any questions or concerns about judging at your first compeition, reach out to an organizer via email or ask in-person at the competition.
All competitors will be expected to help out during their given staffing assignments. If you do not arrive to help during your scheduled assignment and there are not enough staff members, we reserve the right to disqualify you from competing after a warning.
Check out the Events tab to see cutoffs, time limits, and round qualifications. The Schedule tab has a detailed plan for event times, but keep in mind that the competition may drift ahead or behind slightly as the competition continues. Significant changes in the schedule will be announced via email and in-person if necessary. Competitors only need to be present for the events they're signed up to compete in; we recommend showing up at least 15 minutes in advance.
