This competition is being held at the Sylvan Lake family and community centre in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.

Parking

There is a large parking lot on the East side of the building. Parking is free for guests, however it may fill up quickly. Consider carpooling or arriving early if you do not want to worry about finding a parking spot.

Food

There are many fast food restaurants within a five minute drive of the venue. We will also be selling snacks at the concession starting at lunch time.

Around the venue

There is a skatepark and playground just outside the venue if you are bringing children or need a break during the competition!

For first-time competitors:

There are multiple things a first-timer must know before competing. All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. There is a video here for the basic overview of the rules.

In addition, please read this document before coming to the competition to learn about the procedures for judging.

All competitors:

When you arrive, you will receive a card/nametag with personalized information detailing your events and what group you will be competing in for each event. In addition, you will also receive staffing assignments. All competitors are expected to help at this competition. For each event you sign up for, you will be assigned to help out for just one group of that event. If you do not arrive to help during your scheduled event, and there are not enough staff members, we reserve the right to disqualify you from competing.

We will provide a judging tutorial at the beginning of the day, and just after lunch. This will allow anyone with questions about how to judge to be properly prepared when they are expected to help. We hope that this system will fairly divide up the judging of the competition and make the competition run smoothly for all.

During the first three or so hours of this competition, we will be holding the 3x3 blindfolded and 5x5 blindfolded events. Both of these events require a lot of concentration so it is required that we keep the gymnasium absolutely silent until these events are finished. Feel free to arrive at any point during the morning of the competition, just remember to remain silent.

Here are some resources that include some useful info before attending your first WCA competition:

How fast do I need to be to compete?

At WCA competitions, your biggest competitor is yourself. If you are interested in competing and can solve a cube, give it a shot! There is no such thing as "not fast enough".

Can I come and watch the competition?

Spectators are more than welcome at Odd Day In Sylvan 2023! There is no spectator fee.

Do I have to attend the whole competition if I am registered?

No, the schedule was deisgned so newer competitors do not have to arrive until later in the day. However you may feel free to come and go as you please at any point throughout the day, just make sure you show up at least 15 minutes before your event's scheduled start time.

Do I need to compete in every event if I register?

No. Register for whatever combination of events you would like to compete in.

Can I use my own cubes?

Yes. Please bring your own cubes for the events you are competing in, they will not be provided to competitors.

Can I register at the door?

No. If you would like to attend the competition as a competitor, please register and pay the registration fee online to be entered into the competition.

Where can I see my results?

Live results will be posted on WCA live (https://live.worldcubeassociation.org/). On the day of the competition, look for "Odd Day In Sylvan 2023".

How can I help during the competition?

We can always use an extra set of hands for judging, running, or scrambling. Feel free to lend a hand at any point during the competition -- we will provide a running/judging tutorial during the new competitor tutorial. If you're not sure where to start, our staff will answer any questions you have!

Does this competition have age categories?

No. All competitors at WCA competitions are grouped together.

Thank you to Speedcubeshop.com for being the official sponsor of Odd Day In Sylvan 2023!
