This is a twin competition with Irvine FMC A 2022. You may only sign up to ONE competition (A or B).

First time competitors may compete, but please note that there is only the Fewest Moves event.

Spectators are not allowed at this competition. If you need to stay, but are not competing, you will need to wait outside the venue.

To ensure the safety of attendees, we ask attendees to follow these guidelines:

Attendees are REQUIRED to provide proof of FULL vaccination (as defined by the CDC) or a negative COVID test from less than 48 hours before the start of the competition.

  • All attendees are required to wear face-coverings that cover their mouth and nose when using indoor facilities, competing, and staffing, and are recommended to wear face-coverings at all times.
  • Each competitor is limited to at most one (1) guest.
  • All competitors showing symptoms of COVID-19 or who have been exposed to COVID-19 in the 2 weeks before the competition must not attend the competition.
  • We will provide hand sanitizer, masks, and disinfecting wipes to everyone in attendance, and we encourage attendees to regularly sanitize.

By registering for this competition you agree that you understand and will follow all the information listed above.

Q: Do I use my own cube to compete?

A: Yes. You should bring your own cubes to participate.

Q: Will there be regular 3x3?

A: No. This competition is a Fewest Moves only competiton, and will not hold other popular events such as 3x3, 2x2, etc.

Q: What are the legal moves?

A: The moves are counted by using the Outer Block Turn Metric (OBTM). As defined in the 12a section of the regulation, each move of the categories Face Moves and Outer Block Moves is counted as 1 move, and each move of the Rotations category is counted as 0 moves.
* 180 degree turns are counted as 1 move
* slice moves are not allowed. all slice moves are to be written as outer block turns. For example, M' is to be written as L R' x, which is 2 moves in total.

Q: What other materials can I bring?

A: In addition to 3 cubes, you are allowed to bring and use a writing utensil, an eraser, a watch/stopwatch, and stickers. More details are in the E3 section of the regulations.

Q: Can I bring spectators?

A: Because the venue is a private residence, each competitor can only bring up to one guest.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
