What is a Favourites Competition?

A Favourites Competition is a term for a competition that has most or all WCA recognised events, but competitors may only register for a maximum of a few events. This is done to allow people the opportunity to compete in their preferred events, while having a large selection of events to pick from.

What events can I register for?

Competitors may only register for events that add up to no more than 20 points.

You can find how many points each event is worth in the table below:

Examples of valid combinations:
- 3x3, 2x2, Pyraminx, Skewb (5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 points) ✔️
- 2x2, Skewb, 7x7 (5 + 5 + 9 = 19 points) ✔️
- 6x6, Megaminx (7 + 9 = 16 ponts) ✔️
- Pyraminx, Megaminx, One-Handed (5 + 9 + 6 = 20 points) ✔️

Examples of an invalid combination:
- 5x5, 6x6, 7x7 (8 + 7 + 9 = 24 points) ❌

If your registered events add up to over 20 points, we will remove events until it is under and you will need to email us to make sure it's your preferred events list.
If you would like to change your events, you will need to do so by emailing us.

How will the competition run?

The competition will run in three groups of approximately 50 minutes each. In the group you are competing in, you will do all of your events one after the other. In another group, you must help out with running, judging, or scrambling.

You must be present to run, judge or scramble for the group you have been assisgned to help in otherwise you will not be allowed to compete.

Hello! We are the UK Cube Association and we are a completely volunteer-run organisation that hosts all cubing competitions in the UK. We are made up of a team of WCA Delegates and other volunteers, and we're passionate about giving people as many opportunities to compete in the UK as we can. First time at our competitions?

Q: How do I register?
A: Make sure you have created a WCA account by going to the sign-up page and creating an account. Once you have created the account and confirmed your email address, follow the menu bar to the Register page and carefully follow the instructions.

Q: Can I come only to spectate?
A: Yes! There is no need to book - you can just rock up on the day. It can be a bit hectic in the mornings so afternoon is preferred.

Q: Are there different age categories?
A: No, all competitors compete on the same level and all ages are welcome.

Q: Am I allowed to bring a guest?
A: Yes, you can bring as many guests as you want.

Q: How fast do I have to be to compete?
A: Check out the Events tab - if you can make the time limit for the events you want to compete in, then you're fast enough!

Q: Do I have to be there on both days?
A: No, if you only have events on one of the days, you don't have to turn up for the other day. You can see what days your events are on on the Schedule tab.

Q: When can I leave the competition?
A: You are welcome to leave whenever you are not competing. If you have no more events left then you are not required to stay.

Q: Do I use my own cubes to compete?
A: Yes!

Q: How do I find live results?
A: You can see live results as soon as they're entered at WCA Live.

Q: What happens to my results after the competition?
A: Within a couple of days, they will all be posted to this page and if this is your first competition you will automatically have your very own WCA ID assigned.

Need to unregister?

Q: What do I do if I can no longer attend?
A: Let us know via the contact link on the General Info page.

Q: If I do not attend do I get a refund?
A: If you inform us you are no longer attending before the limit date for refunds on the General Info page then you will receive a 100% refund. If this time has passed then you will receive no refund.

New Competitors

To register, make sure you have created a WCA account by going to the sign-up page and creating an account. Once you have created the account and confirmed your email address, follow the menu bar to the Register page and carefully follow the instructions.

If you are a new competitor, please make sure to:

• Familiarise yourself with the WCA Regulations by watching this tutorial for new competitors video. We will also be holding a live tutorial on both mornings of the competition.

• Bring some form of ID with you such as your passport, driver's licence, or birth certificate. Expired ID or photos of ID are both accepted.

Information for All Competitors

• Schedule Changes: Please note that the schedule is subject to change up until the Wednesday before the competition. Any major changes should be communicated in the precompetition email.

• Please help judge! As a competitor, your judging assignments are the absolute minimum you should be doing to help out. Since second rounds, third rounds and finals have no assigned judges, we really need people to help out whenever available for these. If you're a parent you can also get involved with running and juging, it's really easy! We will have a judging tutorial in the mornings as well, which will run through the process and will be tailored towards parents who want to get involved.

• No flash photography anywhere in the venue.

• If you are a spectator, please never stand further forward than the front row of spectator chairs.

Venue

The venue is the Learning and Teaching building at the University of Strathclyde, 49 Richmond Street G1 1XU. The university is right in the heart of Glasgow and is very easily accessed.

Travel

Car: Parking is available at the following nearby car parks:

• NCP George Street Car Park on Montrose Street. A discount for this is available by prebooking here using code L6PN4FX
• Duke Street Car Park for a flat rate of £6 a day

Paid street parking is also available. In some nearby streets this is free after 6pm.

Train: The venue is a 15 minute walk away from Glasgow Central station and a few minutes away from Glasgow Queen Street station. The shuttle bus 398 offers free transport from Glasgow Central station to Buchanan Bus station or Queen Street station for anyone holding a valid rail ticket.

Plane: The nearest airport is Glasgow Airport. The 500 Glasgow Airport Express offers a direct service from the airport to Buchanan bus station, just a few minutes from the venue.

Coach: The venue is a 5 minute walk away from Buchanan bus station which has intercity coach connections to many destinations across the UK.

Bus: The Citylink 900 bus offers a direct service to Buchanan bus station from Edinburgh while the X99 connects Glasgow to Dumfries. Many local buses also stop at North Frederick bus station across the road from the venue.

This competition is currently full due to popular demand. If somebody drops out before Sunday 19 October at 5pm, the next on the list will be moved onto the list of registered competitors. Note that you need to pay the registration fee in order to appear in the list below.

A full refund will be given to anyone that is not promoted from the Waiting List to the competitor list as a result of dropouts. If you wish to be removed from the Waiting List in order to get a refund sooner, then please contact the organisation team in advance.

This competition begins at 5:30pm and will be split into three groups - you will be competing in one group, expected to help out with running, judging or scrambling in another and can take a break in the third.

Groups will be assigned on the day so please arrive on time to find out if you will be competing in the first, second or third group (CompetitionGroups.com will assign you group 1 by default; this is not necessarily correct).
