Information

West Coast Cubing presents the first of a mini competition series!
This competition will be held on a weeknight without traditional events such as 3x3.
If we run ahead of schedule, we will start first round events no earlier than 20 minutes, so please show up at least 20 minutes before your first event.
We will be assigning judging assignments to competitors for the group before or after their own competing groups. Please check your personal competitor cards when we assign them a week before the competition date for relevant info.
Given that this is a small competition, we will expect all competitors to at least help out with judging.

If this is not your first competition, associate your WCA ID to your WCA account here.

There is a competitor limit of 20 competitors.
The base registration fee for this competition is $15 (United States Dollar).
The registration fee has to be paid through Stripe here once registered.
If your registration is cancelled before you will be refunded 90% of your registration fee.
Registrants on the waiting list may be accepted onto the competitor list until .
If you are a registered competitor you may change your registered events until on the Register tab.
No on the spot registrations will be accepted.

Adding/Dropping Events

Competitors may adjust their registration details by themselves to add or remove events BEFORE registration closes. It is also acceptable to not show up for any event you do not wish to compete in, although it is not encouraged.
Competitors may not add events after registration closes.

If Registration fills up, we will place competitors on a waitlist. In order to get on the waitlist, you must register and pay. You are not on the waitlist until you pay the registration fee. If you do not make it off of the waitlist, you will be fully refunded. If a competitor drops out, the first person on the waitlist will replace them. People can be replaced up until the registration close date indicated above

Please be advised that traffic during the late afternoon can be very heavy due to rush hour, especially along 101 North, 280 North, and 92 East, so plan accordingly.

By public transportation:

The nearest airport is San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

There are a lot of food options available near the venue. Bridgepointe Shopping Center has a lot of restaurants and is a short walk from the venue.

There is a lot of parking on both sides of the office building. Please be advised that the parking garage (excluding the roof) is restricted to office employees only.

For those of you new to cubing, WELCOME! We wanted to let you know this event is perfectly fine for cubers of any age and experience. We just ask you know a couple things before coming to compete...

First, please be familiar with the WCA Regulations, found here: https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/

If you have any questions in regards to the competition, we will be having a first time competitor tutorial. Please navigate to the Schedule tab of this competition to know what time the tutorial will be.
Head over to the registration tab, if you are ready to sign-up for your first competiton! Click register, and fill out the information that it asks for. This will help you get set up into the WCA's system and one step closer to your first official solve!

Q&A:

Do I use my own cube to compete?
YES! You are responsible for your own hardware in order to compete.

What is the normal age of competitors at these events?
All ages are welcome, but in general competitors are between 10 and 20 years old. Don't let this stop you though, everyone can and should cube!

What is the competition like?
Competitions are a bunch of tables where nerds like us get to sit and discuss our favorite thing, Cubes! Of course in addition there is competing, which will occupy one side of the competition hall, where you will see lots of timers flickering with contestants new personal bests. Most competitions have a break for lunch, and the competing is split up into groups, as to better organize who competes when. (Check the Groups tab and listen at the competition for more info on this.)

How do I find results?
All results are posted on the WCA page a couple of days after the competition finishes. However, for the day of competing, search "WCA Live" (https://live.worldcubeassociation.org) to find information about current events. This is also where you will find information about 2nd and 3rd rounds of events.

Why am I not on the registration list yet?
Make sure you pay your registration fee in order to be automatically placed on the registered list, which will also guarantee you a spot in the competition. If payment may be any issue, or you are not sure if you can attend, use the contact button to talk to us, and see if we can work out another payment strategy, or have you pay on arrival at the compeition. No matter what situation you may be however, please register online. It is much easier for us to have you register now and pay later, then to have to input information at another time. After you pay, please allow up to 48 hours for your registration to be accepted, as we do accept all registrations manually.

Are there age divisions?
Nope! All cometitors compete in the same group.

Can I have fun at this event?
HECK YES! Cubing is amazing, and we sincerely hope you enjoy the competition!

We will be using groups for this competition. Groups will be available on competitiongroups.com closer to the date of the event.

For those unfamiliar, each competitor is assigned to a group for each of the above events. During the competition, competitors will be called up by that group. For example, "Now calling 3x3 Group 1" means all competitors who have been assigned group 1 for 3x3 are up to compete and should bring their cube to the scrambling station. This also allows competitors to better know when they will be competing as groups are called in numerical order.

- The venue is located in the office lobby. Please be advised that after 6pm, the doors will require keycard access. Competition staff will not actively check the doors for late comers after the competition starts unless informed in advance.

- Non-employees are only allowed to be on the first floor lobby and must be accompanied by an office employee anywhere else that requires keycard access.

- Non-employees who enter the building before 5pm must check in with the security desk in the lobby.

- We are very privileged to be able to use this space, so we ask that all competitors and spectators are on their best behavior and treat this space with the respect that it deserves.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
