For each round, competitors are called to compete one group at a time. To facilitate this, all competitors have been manually assigned a specific timer and a specific group to compete in for each round.
The full list of competitor groups is available at this link.
Use your browser's "Find"/"Find in page" feature to search for a particular competitor. Competitors are sorted alphabetically by first name.

We would normally recommend watching this video if you are new to competitions. We still recommend watching it, but our competition will be ran differently in accordance with the Competition Safety Policy and our Risk Management Plan.

Spectators are limited to one guest per competitor and additional spectators are not permitted.

Competitors are encouraged to bring their own pens to this competition. We will supply pens for competitors who do not supply their own.

In contrast to competitions held before March 2020, we will do the entire competition "stationary". What this means is that each competitor will do their entire attempts in a row at a single station for a round without leaving their seat.

Instead of dropping your cube off at a "cube drop off table", competitors will find the station with their scorecard (labeled on their lanyard) and place their cube in the cube cover with their scorecard.

When you are done with all of your solves, you will be able to leave the station with your cube. Make sure you have signed all of your solves.

We will have a comprehensive competitor tutorial at the beginning of the day that we encourage all competitors to attend. Seasoned competitors will find some things different as per our Risk Management Plan.

There will be no competitor waiting area.

As this is the Western Championship, we will be recognizing Western Champions for each event. We will recognize as the Western Champion the top finisher from one of these states and territories:
American Samoa
Arizona
California
Colorado
Guam
Hawaii
Nevada
Northern Mariana Islands
Utah

This is the third CubingUSA Western Championship, part of a series of Regional Championships supported by CubingUSA. The goal of these competitions is to allow competitors from all over the country to compete for regional titles. The Western region is comprised of the above states and territories. While only residents of the western region are eligible to win the title of Western Champion, residents from everywhere are welcome to compete.

Parking Locations can be found here.

Air Travel: The Provo Airport is 4 miles from the competition venue.
The Salt Lake City International Airport is 49 miles from the competition venue.

Public Transit: There are three public transit options offered by the Utah Transit Authority.
FrontRunner is a light rail system that goes from downtown Salt Lake City directly to Provo. It is unfortunately not available on Sundays, but is a cheap and fast way to get from the SLC airport to Provo.
The TRAX Green Line runs directly from the SLC airport through the Salt Lake Valley to Provo. It runs seven days a week.
There are also local busses that can be used in Provo.

Travel from the SLC Airport to Provo: One good public transit option is to take the TRAX Green Line (704) from the airport to the North Temple Station. There, transfer to the southbound FrontRunner (750) and ride to the Provo Station. Both the 850 and 834 bus lines go from the Provo FrontRunner Station to the competition venue and the surrounding area.

Travel from Provo to the SLC Airport (Sunday): Take the 850 bus line north to the Draper Town Center Station. Transfer to the TRAX Blue Line (701). At the Arena Station, exit the blue line and board a Green Line (704) train.

For those of you new to cubing, WELCOME!

We wanted to let you know this event is perfectly fine for cubers of any age and experience. We just ask you know a couple things before coming to compete...

First, please be familiar with the WCA Regulations, found here:
https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/

This video will explain most of what any cuber competing for the first time will need to know, however competitors are still responsible for undertanding the full WCA Regulations.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPL3eV-A0ww&t=2s

If you have any questions after this video, we will be having a new competitor tutorial, Saturday morning of the competition. That would be the perfect time to ask those questions and clear up any confusion.

If you are stoked to compete and ready to sign up, head over to the registration tab, click register, and fill out the information it asks for. This will help you get set up the WCA's system and one step closer to your first official solve!

FAQ

Q: Do I use my own cube to compete?
A: YES! You are responsible for your own hardware in order to compete, however, we will have a vendor at this competition, from which you can buy puzzles if your current ones have seen better days.

Q: What is the normal age of competitors at these events?
A: All ages are welcome, but in general competitors are between 10 and 20 years old. Don't let this stop you though, everyone can and should cube!

Q: What is the competition like?
A; Competitions are a bunch of tables where nerds like us get to sit and discuss our favorite thing, Cubes! Of course in addition there is competing, which will occupy one side of the competition hall, where you will see lots of timers flickering with contestants new personal bests, and a vendor, where you can purchase all you cubing related needs. Most competitions have a break for lunch, and the competing is split up into heats, as to better organize who competes when. (Check the Groups tab and listen at the competition for more info on this.)

Q: How do I find results?
A: All results are posted on the WCA page a couple of days after the competition finishes. However, during the competition go to WCA Live to find information about current results. This is also where you will find information about upcoming rounds of events.

Q: Why am I not on the registration list yet?
A: Make sure you pay you entrance fee in order to be automatically placed on the registered list, which will also guarantee you a spot in the competition. If payment may be any issue, or you are not sure if you can attend, use the contact button to talk to us, and see if we can work out another payment strategy, or have you pay on arrival at the compeition. No matter what you situation may be however, please register online. It is much easier for us to have you register now and pay later, then to have to input information at another time.

Q: Are there age divisions?
A: Nope! All cometitors compete in the same group.

Q: Can I have fun at this event?
A: HECK YES! Cubing is amazing, and we sincerely hope you enjoy the competition!

No outside food or drink is allowed in the venue.

A map of the venue can be found here.

The main room for our competition is Ballroom AB, which is on the 2nd floor. Friday's events and some events on Saturday will be held in the side room, which is Ballroom C, just down the hall.

While we will appreciate everyone helping out throughout the competition, we will have a core staff team that will scramble, run, judge, and enter data throughout the competition.

Staff Responsibilities
* Help set up on Friday, November 26th from 1-2:45 PM
* Attend the staff competition on Friday, November 26th from 2:45-6:30 PM
* Help set up on Saturday, November 27th at 7 AM
* Help clean up on Sunday, November 28th immediately after awards
* Assist with scrambling, running, judging, and data entry as assigned throughout the duration of the competition

Staff members who can attend the whole competition may be given priority, but still feel free to submit a staff application even if you cannot attend the whole time. Just let us know in the application if there will be any times you are unavailable. The staff application will be open until registration closes. However, the staff may fill up earlier, depending on interest, so register soon if you would like to join the staff.

Staff Application

Selected staff members will have their competition fee waived after the competition. All staff members will pay the competition fee before the competition and register normally, but will have 100% of the competition fee refunded after completing all staff tasks as assigned.

The following events are only accepting the top competitors who attend, based on the psych sheet. We know that this isn't preferred, and hope to remove this restriction in future Western Championships.

5x5x5 Cube: Top 32 competitors.
6x6x6 Cube: Top 16 competitors.
7x7x7 Cube: Top 16 competitors.
3x3x3 Fewest Moves: Top 16 competitors.
Megaminx: Top 32 competitors.
3x3x3 Multi-Blind: Top 8 competitors.

This competition will have one (unofficial) round of Face-Turning Octahedron as an Extra Events competition. The time limit is 5 minutes per solve. Please only register if you are certain that you can solve the Face-Turning Octahedron in that time.
Registration takes place on the Extra Events website. Sign in with your WCA account, find this competition, and register yourself prior to 1:00pm Mountain Standard Time on Sunday, November 28th (during the competition). We will start immediately then.

Contact Brandon Harnish for more information.

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced across rounds (see Guideline A1a2++).
