Q. How do I register for this competition?

A. Registration for this competition opens on Saturday, September 19th, at 7PM CDT and will remain open until Friday, October 23rd at 11:59PM CDT. You'll need a WCA Account to register. Once registration has opened, you can register at the register button to your left or at this link. Select the events you'll be competing in and any comments you'd like the organization team to know. After pressing Register, you'll be prompted to pay using Stripe. You must pay your registration fee to be eligible to compete. If there is still space in the competition and you do not receive an email saying your registration has been accepted within 48 hours of paying, please contact the organization team.

Q. How can I prepare for the competition day?

A. Competitors should understand the WCA Regulations before competing. For something a little more digestable, you can read the WCA Competitor Tutorial or watch this video guide. We will have a New Competitor Tutorial at the beginning of the day where you can learn and ask questions.

Q. Who should I ask if I have any questions?

A. Before the competition, you can contact the organization team with any questions with our contact form. During the competition, you can speak to a delegate. Your delegates for this competition are Francisco García, Coleton Pleiss, and Chaeli Baker.

Q. What are groups? How can I find which ones I'm in?

A. Groups are how we determine when each competitor competes. During each round, we will have several groups that will be called up in succession. When the group in which you're supposed to compete is called, please come up to the cube dropoff table and submit your puzzle. When the group you're judging is called, come up and find an empty station to judge. Groups will be emailed to competitors or in a tab on this website in the week leading up to the competition.

Q. Do competitors need to volunteer? How do I do that?

A. We require that all competitors volunteer as Judges during the competition day. You will be assigned a group to judge in. We will go over judging in our New Competitor Tutorial.

Q. How old do I have to be to compete?

A. WCA Competitions are open to cubers of any age! We do not have age groups so all competitors compete with each other.

Q. What do I need to bring to the competition?

A. You'll need to bring the puzzles required for any event you'll be competing in. Most competitors like to bring other cubes to warm up with. All timing equipment will be supplied by the WCA Delegates at the competition.

Q. Where can I find results for this competition?

A. Live results will be visible on WCA Live and will be posted on the WCA Website shortly after the competition. If it's your first competition, you'll get a WCA ID when results are posted to the WCA Website.

Q. How can I have a competition in my hometown?

A. Please contact Midwest Cubing Assocation here to find the best delegate to support you.

For each event, competitors are called to compete one group at a time. To facilitate this, all competitors will be assigned to a specific group for each event. Judging and scrambling assignments for helping out at the competition are also listed for each competitor.

The competitor cards will also be available on a lanyard for each competitor at registration the morning of the competition. All competitors will be required to wear their lanyards throughout the day of the competition.

🎃 Halloween at Cube or Treat

Cube or Treat takes place on Halloween, and we're celebrating throughout the competition! Costumes are strongly encouraged for competitors, spectators, parents, and siblings.

We'll have candy, a costume contest, and other Halloween-themed surprises throughout the day.

We've intentionally planned a shorter competition day so that competitors and families can still enjoy Halloween evening after the competition.

All Halloween activities and costumes are completely optional. You're more than welcome to attend and compete normally without participating.

👻 Costumes

Everyone attending Cube or Treat is encouraged to come in costume! Costumes may be worn throughout the competition as long as they are safe, family-friendly, and do not interfere with the competition.

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

• Competitors must remain identifiable. Full-face masks, face coverings, or extensive face paint that prevents identification may not be worn by competitors. Light or decorative face paint is welcome.
• Competitors must wear their competition lanyard at all times.
• Inflatable or excessively bulky costumes are not permitted.
• Costume props are welcome as long as they do not obstruct aisles, competition areas, or other attendees. Props may need to be left away from competition stations while competing or volunteering.
• Real weapons and realistic-looking weapon props are not permitted. Clearly fictional or toy costume props may be permitted as long as they otherwise follow these guidelines.
• Costume elements that could interfere with normal solving must be removed before competing. This includes items such as gloves, costume hands, or eyewear that obstructs vision. Competitors should be able to perform their attempts normally while in costume.
• Costumes must be appropriate for an all-ages event. Costumes containing excessive gore, sexual content, hateful or offensive imagery, or other inappropriate content are not permitted.
• All normal WCA Regulations and competitor responsibilities still apply while wearing a costume.
• The WCA Delegates may require any costume or costume element to be removed or adjusted if it creates a safety concern, interferes with the competition, or does not follow these guidelines.

Please keep track of your belongings! The organization team and venue are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged costume pieces, props, or other personal belongings.

🍬 Candy & Treats

It wouldn't be Cube or Treat without the treats!

Candy and other Halloween treats will be available throughout the competition for competitors and guests. You may even encounter a few surprise opportunities to earn some extra treats during the day!

Food Allergies & Dietary Restrictions

All competition-provided candy will remain individually wrapped in its original manufacturer packaging.

We will try to provide a variety of options, but we cannot guarantee that any candy is free from specific allergens or cross-contact. If you have a food allergy or dietary restriction, please check the manufacturer's packaging before consuming any candy.

👻 Cube or Treat Costume Contest

Think your costume has what it takes?

Competitors, spectators, parents, siblings, and friends are all welcome to enter the Cube or Treat Costume Contest!

There is no additional cost to participate, and you do not need to be a registered competitor.

📸 How to Enter

Costume Contest entries will be accepted from 8:00 AM–9:30 AM.

To enter, stop by the designated costume photo area and have your official entry photo taken.

Having your photo taken enters you in the contest — no additional form or registration is required.

Entry photos will include a small name board so that the judges can identify each entrant. These identification photos will only be used for judging and will not be published as event photos.

Group Costumes

Coordinated and group costumes are absolutely welcome! However, the Costume Contest is an individual competition, and one individual will be selected as Best Costume.

Anyone participating in a group costume who would like to be considered should have an individual entry photo taken.

🏆 Judging

There will be one overall Best Costume winner.

Entries will be judged by the WCA Delegates during the competition, with general consideration given to:

• Creativity
• Effort
• Overall impression

The winner will be announced after 7x7 Finals.

You must still be present at the competition when the winner is announced to receive the prize.

🍫 The Prize

The Best Costume winner will receive bragging rights...

...and a ridiculously oversized candy prize.

All costumes entered in the Costume Contest must follow the costume guidelines listed on the Halloween tab.
