If you're a first-time competitior, we would love to have you! It doesn't matter how quickly you can solve the cube - everyone is there to have fun, make new friends, and do their best. If you're on the fence about going, take a look at this video giving a bit of insight into what a cube competition is like.
This competition runs over two days but you don't need to attend both days. Have a look on the schedule to see when the different events are happening so you can decide what days you should attend. For example, if you're only competing in 5x5, you only need to come on Sunday. Make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before Registration ends on the first day you'll be competing. This helps us with entering everyone into the system and ensures that you're on time for the "Tutorial for new competitors". As a first-time competitor, you don't want to miss this as we'll be going over all the details of how to participate in this competition.
You can also watch this tutorial video beforehand on how you'll complete your solves.
We will also be sending out a pre-competition email before the competition with some more information so keep an eye out for that.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the delegates and organiser - we would be happy to help!
Information for all competitors:
- Please help judge! These competitions need lots of volunteers to run smoothly and on time, judges are the main roles that require the most help. It is also very easy to do, even non-cubers and parents can do it! If you are unsure of the procedure we will explain it as a part of the new competitor tutorial which will take place at the start of each day. If you still don't quite understand we are happy to show you anytime throughout the rest or the competition. And you may judge in any round you like throughout the competition.
- However if you are competing in an event then you are expected to also help out. We understand if you need time to warm-up so we would really appreciate it if you could judge in the group immediately following yours. For example if you are competing in group 2, please help judge in group 3 etc. If there are only 2 groups, we expect you to help out in the other group.
- No flash photography under any circumstance within the venue. It is extremely destracting to competitors while they are competing. You are more than welcome to record or take pictures as long as your flash is off.
- Make sure to keep your space clean and tidy. Please put all your rubbish into the bins or take it home with you when you leave.
- There are hundreds of puzzles within the venue at all times. Make sure to keep your cubes together to ensure that you don't lose any!
Do I need to be at both days if I am only competing on one day?
No, you only have to be there on the day that you are competing. Make sure to check out the schedule tab to see when you compete. We suggest arriving at the competition at least 30 minutes prior to your event in case we run ahead of schedule.
Where can I view my results?
On the competition days all results will be uploaded to WCA Live. Just search for the competition name under the "upcoming" tab. After the competition has ended, it will take a few days for the official results to be uploaded to the WCA main site.
How can I stay up to date on future competitions?
Below are a few options for getting notified of future competitions:
- Register an account on CubingZA. Once you are logged in, you will be able to set notifications for competitions in your preferred provinces. You should receive email notifications for new competitions in these regions.
- Join the CubingZA Whatsapp community by clicking on this link. By joining the Whatsapp community you will automatically be added the announcement group, and will have the option to join the following groups: a. ZA Speedcubing Advice & PBs - this group is strictly for posting personal bests and asking for speedcubing advice. b. African Cubers - this group is for catching up and chatting with fellow cubers.
- The WCA Official website competitions page will show all announced competitions coming up.
This competition's results can be viewed live on WCA Live!
Please note that there may sometimes be a delay in entering data. However, we will try our best to keep results updated as much as possible throughout the competition.
Each event is run in groups. The number of groups is dependant on how many people are competing in the event.
Competition Groups automatically picks what groups you are in, the judges, the runners and who is scrambling for each group.
Make sure to keep an eye out before and during the competition for when you are running, judging, scrambling or competing. We always appreciate the help!
