As a non-official side classification, we are hosting the 3rd Battle of Alberta! We will sort competitors by Northern and Southern Alberta, with the 52nd Parallel N being the cut off (Just below Innisfail).
For the scoring of the Battle of Alberta side event, 3x3, 2x2 (first round only), we will use the best 25 competitors of the north group vs the best 25 competitors of the south group.
We will average their times per group and the fastest group will get 1 point.
For Skewb and One Handed we will do the same with the top 20 per group
For and Square-1 we will do the same with the top 15 per group.
This way there are 5 points to give away, but there's more!
If someone gets a Canadian record Ao5 in any of the events (including finals) that group gets an additional 2 points per record.
In the rare case the groups north and south get the same averaged time, we will use the best Ao5 of the first round will win the point.
If the top ao5 of each zone are the same, then the best single of the first round will win the point. If that is still the same time, the point for that event will be decided by coin flip.
The group with the largest amount of points wins the Battle of Alberta!
If you did not compete in the Battle of Alberta last year, or you have been affected by the new North/South division line, please contact us so we can add you to the correct group.
If you do on the spot registration, we will ask you what zone you would be part of after you are fully registered.
Wear your favourite jersey! We encourage competitors and guests to wear their favourite Albertan sport team jersey, as we hope to create a fun Battle of Alberta atmosphere!
Most visitors will arrive in Red Deer via the QE2 Highway.
Take the 32 Street exit, then turn right (South) onto Donald Blvd. From there, you can either turn left immediately onto College Circle to reach Parking Lot 5 and the east side of Lot 1, or continue straight on Donald Blvd and take the next left to access the west side of Lot 1. The recommended parking areas are Lot 5 and Lot 1 on both sides.
On the map below, you can see the suggested route as well as a red star marking the closest doors to the venue.
Its that time again, another Battle of Alberta competition, in order to honor our tradition of competing the north and south halfs of the province against eachother we will be doing a team relay with our top solvers covering each of the events for this competition. This will take place and be explained at the start of lunch, stay tuned to see our fastest compete and to cheer on your region of the province.
