Colored plastic cubes and Megaminxes with ridges

Hello all, The WCA Board and the WRC have discussed two recent brands of cubes, and would like to announce the following clarifications of the regulations. Cubes with multi-colored plastic ("stickerless" cubes): Until now, these cubes have been allowed in blindfold solving but disallowed in sighted solving. Because these cubes may provide an advantage during memorisation, and for consistency, we will not allow these cubes to be used in any WCA events, starting December 1, 2012. Megaminxes with Ridges: Dayan has recently started producing a Megaminx with ridges (see http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showt ... post784562). We have agreed that these puzzles do not violate any regulations. Therefore, the stickered version of this puzzle is legal for use in WCA competitions. The puzzles with multi-colored plastic, however, are not allowed. The WCA Board and the WRC

Thank you for the clear statements, it shows you guys are active :) Totally agree with both statements btw, the inconsistency in coloured cubes-use was confusing me.

I must say i am a bit surprised by the partial ban of the "multi-solid-color" stickerless puzzles. What are the so-called advantages of using these puzzles?? I fail to see tha advantage of using such puzzles. As for ridges i totally agree. Better puzzles are always welcome  Oh well. I do no longer speed-cube anyway ... Does not really matter to me :P

I don't see why plastic coloured cubes are not allowed? I recently ordered a DaYan Zhanchi plastic coloured and was really annoyed when I read that you cannot use it in competitions as I have just started looking into them. When the face is turned at a 45 degree angle, the only colours you can see on the inside are the ones you can see on the outside anyway!? You can not see the back or bottom face in any more detail than a black inside cube? Also you would have to have EXTREMELY fast eyes to see the 45 degree angle colours whilst turning at a good competition speed (I would say that's about sub 15 seconds) to pick up the inside colours, which doesn't matter anyway! So anyway, my point is that I really strongly think they should be allowed as I am very sure they do not offer any advantage. Part of my point why they should be allowed is they are generally brighter, look cooler, I ordered one, and they do not offer any human advantage! So, I really hope anyone who feels the same join my sort of campain to get them allowed in competition, and i hope WCA takes my point into consideration, notices or reply's to me and anyone else who feels the same. Thank you for reading, please reply your agreement or other opinions on the matter, thanks again!

hi, kind of old, but anyway. you said : "they do not offer any human advantage!". I'm very sure you know exactly what every human is capable to. I'm very sure you know perfectly every little possibility of every single brain in every single human. So you can probably assure that they do not offer any human advantage. Actually, I do think they offer advantages :) And, as I said few posts ago, many arguments have been told since they started selling these cubes. Please read them, try to understand them ! And my personnal point of view is that I actually don't really care : they do offer advantages, as do any zhanchi compared to any basic rubik or even type A, but these advantages are pretty small, even hard to master. So... yeah, confused. Bye!
