WCA Lead Organizer Overview & Pilot (November 2026)

Announced by Remi Bierker on

Dear WCA Community,

The WCA is introducing a Lead Organizer (LO) Requirements Policy, to improve financial transparency, reduce legal risk, and support the long-term growth of competitive speedcubing. The model formalizes responsibility for WCA competitions, including the finances, venue, organization, and competition management.

Implementation will be phased, beginning with a pilot in regions ready to adopt the model. The pilot will help test processes and identify areas for improvement, with full implementation targeted for Q3 2027. The long-term goal is for every competition to have exactly one Lead Organizer.

Pilot Scope
The following areas, confirmed with Senior Delegates, will participate in the initial pilot:
• Canada
• Oceania
• United Kingdom
• United States

Competitions for the above areas must have an accredited Lead Organizer for any competitions announced on or after January 1, 2027.

Application Process
Any organization or individual that organizes WCA competitions may apply, as long as they meet the requirements for a Lead Organizer.

Lead Organizer Application - Individual

Applications for pilot areas must be received by December 11, 2026. We will continue to process new Lead Organizer applications after that date, but accredited Lead Organizers will become mandatory for pilot areas for all competitions announced on or after January 1, 2027.
Once an application has been submitted, applicants can expect a response within approximately three weeks.
Please direct any questions about potential eligibility to become a Lead Organizer to your WCA Delegate or Regional Organization.
