Expression of Interest for 2028 WCA Continental Championships & 2029 WCA World Championship
Dear WCA Community,
The WCA Major Championship Team (WMCT) is pleased to be opening an Expression of Interest (EoI) period for the 2028 Continental Championships and 2029 World Championship, following the procedures defined in Motion 22.2025.1 - Major Championship Selection. We would like to receive EoIs for the following regions for 2028 Continental Championships:
- Africa
- Asia
- Europe
- North America
- Oceania
- South America
This EoI period will serve as an opportunity to discuss possibilities about future Continental and World Championships, and will allow the WMCT to have more information about the interest for these Championships. Organizations that intend to lodge a formal bid are strongly recommended to submit an EoI.
Organizing a WCA Championship of this scale takes a significant amount of time and effort, spanning pre-event preparation, the championship itself, and post-event tasks. It is imperative that the Championship organizers, as well as a substantial portion of the WCA Delegates in your country are committed to the preparation and the execution of this event. It is recommended to privately request the WMCT’s Guide for Major Championship Organizers before submitting an EoI.
To register your interest please send an email to championships@worldcubeassociation.org before December 20th, 2026, 23:59 UTC with the subject line of “EoI from <Location/Team> to bid for <Region> Championship <Year>”. This email should include at least:
- The Regional Organization or the registered entity that would be sending the application
- Outline of the main organizing team, listing roles and experience
- Location(s) of the championship
- Possible venue(s)
Please note that applications must be made by a WCA Regional Organization or by a registered entity if the host city is located in a region without a RO. Please include as much information as possible about the potential championship bid. The WMCT will open the formal bidding process in early 2027.
