Incident: Use of a 3x3x3 Cube with LEGO Pieces instead of stickers in Fewest Moves Solving

Status: Resolved

3h 3h++ 3l E3 E3e

Incident description and resolution:

Currently, in Fewest Moves Solving, the stickers can be used as indicators on a puzzle:

E3) The competitor may use the following objects during the attempt. Penalty for using unauthorized objects: disqualification of the attempt (DNF).
E3c) Stickers (self-supplied).

Other forms of indicator are allowed as long as the indicators does not break other WCA Regulations. For example, using a 3x3x3 Cube that has tiles that allow blocks (e.g. LEGO blocks) to be placed on them like stickers, is legal as long as it does not break other WCA Regulations. It is okay to use these blocks as indicating pieces by assembling instead of sticking to the puzzle surfaces.

However, due to Regulation E3e, the puzzle and the indication pieces should be approved by the WCA Delegates before being used in the Fewest Moves. The WCA Delegate should make sure the puzzles and the blocks are not illegal (e.g. contain electronic aids or might give an unfair advantage).
