Incident: Competitor realized the color scheme on their puzzle was swapped during their solve

A competitor in the Square-1 final round requested an extra attempt after realizing that a friend had swapped the top and bottom colors on their puzzle, altering the color scheme. This resulted in his solve being a DNF with the top and bottom layers being swapped, as a direct result of this modification. The competitor acknowledged that they had submitted the puzzle themselves but was unaware of this modification at that time. They made sure not to sign their time before calling over the Delegate.
The WRC concluded that, even though it was the competitor's own puzzle that he handed in himself, not having knowledge of such a modification can cause a significant amount of distraction. That, combined with the fact the attempt wasn't signed for yet, makes it so that the extra was warranted by 11d, considering that the DNF was a direct result of the swapped colors.
In cases like this, Delegates should use reasonable discretion to determine the most fair outcome. Had the competitor known about their color scheme being swapped, it would not be as reasonable to grant the extra attempt.
