Incident: Stopwatch reset after stopping multi-blind attempt
A6f1
VirginiaChampionship2023
Towards the end of a competitor's multi-blind attempt, the judge went to go stop the stopwatch. After the attempt finished, the judge proceeded to check and count the cubes. They then went to reference the time on the stopwatch, but found that the timer had been reset (likely accidentally) to 0:00.00. The judge and competitor both seemed to remember the exact same time that was shown on the stopwatch prior to the accidental reset.
The decision was made to use the time that was shared in memory by the competitor and the judge since the competitor did not cause the reset and since the time remembered was the same by both the competitor and the judge.
While seemingly a malfunction of the stopwatch in this case, it serves as a reminder that timers should not be reset before the result is written down and signed for. If a competitor resets their timer before the time is fully written down, then it must be recorded as DNF (See Regulation A6f1).
