Hi guys, for the past couple of months, the WRC has worked on a Constitution for the WCA. We've decided to make the current draft public for discussion. Please keep in mind that while this is a draft, most of the institutions we've put in place are here to stay, unless someone offers a significant and well-reasoned argument why something should be changed. Once the Board approves this, it will go into effect (and the amendments process would be the only way to change something). As for an update of what we're doing, Lucas and Shelley are working on a new unified official scrambler, and Regulations and Guidelines are coming.

That's great I also wanted to ask the WRC about the english level used in those Regulations. It would be great to have it written in simple english, for all those who don't have that "strong command of the language", as you said in another post. I'm sure you already thought about it, but when i saw in Indonesia for example, the english level of the WCA Delegates, I have been really thinking about this. Not to say that they don't speak english hey (i'm not very proud of mine, i wouldn't spit on someone else's !) I met few delegates in Indonesia, and also lots of competitors, and had very very nice time with them, but as you know, the english language there is not spoken by a lot of people, and i met actually 2 or 3 guys who have a very good english level (by very good, i mean they can have a discussion about a lot of things, with not hesitations, they have a lot of vocab and stuff), but for most of the cubing community, they know just basic english, and this happens in a lot of countries ! I say again that i'm sure you already think about it, and i don't want to show pretentious at all, just want to explain my mind EDIT : I have just seen there is a translation in Indonesian, so it breaks my reasonning but it remains valid to other countries anyway. Hello Gael! Thanks for the input for me and other WCA delegates in Indonesia especially in English level, yeah, I'm aware that my spoken English is not very good - my written one is better. That's because as Indonesian we almost never use English in our daily life. I have to think first before speak, sometimes that's annoying to people who speak to me, and also annoying to me. Like "what word should I use?" in my mind but nothing come, then it's come out minutes later. I'm also aware I need to learn and practice to make my English more fluent because of this. About the draft, I'm pretty much understand it without tools or dictionary. We will try hard to make a translation if the new regulation is final and make it understandable to Indonesian Cubing Community. Also thanks for your visit to us! - Ardianto

hey! that was really not bad from me, ardianto ! my english is worse than yours I just wanted to insist on the fact that the regulations must be in simple english (when it is possible), for the simple fact that a lot of communities do not have translations. And you know, when i talk, i also have to think about the word (it's going better and better, but still), so be sure i was not bad to any of you !!! when i said "the english level of the WCA Delegates", i really didn't meant you don't speak english, i meant that your english was not fluent ! don't take it bad, i know mine ins't either ! i'm just sure it would be easier for everyone if the regs would be in easy english ! i'm really sorry if i offended you, i didn't want. i just wanted to say that i'm affraid that if it becomes using "high level" (lol) english, it might be complicated for a lot of people, me included. and, i might see you again in few weeks, man * Gael

Hello Gael, Don't take that too serious, you didn't offend me at all. I just stated that I need to learn and practice my English more, and I really want to do it! And by the way, I agree with Gael's opinion about using 'Simple English' - the regulations should be in a language that most of the communities understand. But, I know that it is hard to write a legal document with a limited set of words. The point here is to make the regulations understandable by everyone in the communities, even with basic English. That will also make translating to other languages is easier! - Ardianto

Hi guys, Thanks for your input. I understand that there may, in some cases, be possible language barriers with regards to WCA documents. When the Board approves the Constitution, the WRC will recommend that the Constitution be translated into more languages (with deference to the English version in cases of translational conflicts). Accessibility is definitely something that we will be working on in the future, and this is a good place to start.
