New Events Poll

Roboguy777 (2008-12-23 15:23:22 +0000)
Choose the events that you think should be added. I only gave one vote since I put in some combinations. Say which ones you want in a reply if I didn't put it in the poll. P.S - This is my first post [b:187gkmkh]UPDATE[/b:187gkmkh]: I re-did a few things because of all of the complaints. You now have 7 votes and the events have changed: there is now longer the Impossiball but Speed BLD, OH, and the Rainbow cube have been added. The 6x6 and 7x7 cubes have been separated. Note that this is NOT official but just a way for people to show what events they are going to vote for and explain why in replies.

I want the event called "spank the newbie for acting like he's in charge, for only including a few puzzles and not justifying his choice, for screwing up the poll creation by incompletely listing combinations instead of just listing the events and letting people choose several, and for hiding behind a fake name". Could you add that event to your poll, please? Thanks a bunch.
Lucas (2008-12-23 19:07:50 +0000)
Speed BLD, 7x7x7, and Stefan's suggestion.

Fyi- I didn't list all the combinations because you can only have 10 options, I chose the most logical. I forgot all about Speed BLD, Sorry.
StefanPochmann (2008-12-23 19:50:41 +0000)
I know that limit. And fail to see how that selection was logical. When creating a poll, you can enter a number clearly described with "This is the number of options each user may select when voting". So here you could've listed five single events, no combinations, and let people select up to all five options. Then each of us could vote exactly for those events he/she likes, not being forced to one of the few combinations you like. And it would be easier and less confusing, too. But mainly I found it presumptuous for an unknown newbie to create the poll that is the WCA's job, with an incomplete and undiscussed set of events.
I chose the most logical.[/quote:1lroqcs3] How is Impossiball logical? It's no longer sold by Meffert's, similar to the existing Megaminx event, doesn't turn well for speed. Wouldn't Rainbow Cube be more logical? You don't need to come up with events just to fill out the list.
Dene (2008-12-23 21:24:14 +0000)
What a poorly thought out list of events. It seems to me only one of the chosen events has even a slight chance at making it through (guess which one). I mean, have you not read through the other threads for this year and seen what other people are looking for?
Bob (2008-12-23 22:58:18 +0000)
I vote for Stefan's option and for the deletion of this thread.
Roboguy777 (2008-12-23 23:03:52 +0000)
I'm sorry, I didn't know that if you make multiple votes that you didn't have to use them all. I wasn't trying to make it seem official, just see what everyone thought.
Roboguy777 (2008-12-27 21:06:03 +0000)
I hope you guys are more satisfied with my updates. I would like to say what I voted for and why. I Voted for the V cubes (obvious reasons) I voted for the Pyraminx Crystal- it is my favorite puzzle and it has had a huge burst of popularity from the short time it has been released. The Skewb- Besides being a great puzzle. It shouldn't take long to solve, the event should be short and their shouldn't be any scrambling problems. Speed BLD- When I was very new to the cube I thought that this was how the Blindfolded event was ran. I thought that the memorization wasn't part of the solve and that there was a given inspection time. I am all for Speed Bld because thats how I think normal blindfolded should be ran. Rainbow Cube- Is it really that popular? I didn't vote for it OH- I don't think this would be totally fair since their are a lot of people who are both right and left handed
Bob (2008-12-27 21:36:39 +0000)
OH? What event is that?
Roboguy777 (2008-12-27 21:39:36 +0000)
OH? What event is that?[/quote:1gn6j8xb] Other Hand

I cannot even express how disappointed I am with you.

Other Hand? How would you enforce that? What's to keep someone from doing NH (normal hand) with their bad hand in order to get the WR in Other Hand?
Roboguy777 (2008-12-27 23:07:53 +0000)
Other Hand? How would you enforce that? What's to keep someone from doing NH (normal hand) with their bad hand in order to get the WR in Other Hand?[/quote:b1lbkq8w] I know, thats what I was thinking but apparently some of people want it and it has been a side event at some of the competitions.

OH? What event is that?[/quote:2wh95uvy] Other Hand[/quote:2wh95uvy] That made me laugh a lot !! I am left handed for OH. As OH WR seems to be unbreakable, I think I will only compete in OH with my right hand and keep the left one for the Other Hand World Record... Seriously, can you imagine there can be a World Champion of 3x3 Other Hand ?
Because he didn't know what OH stood for?[/quote:10bck2wa] That made me laugh a lot !! Anyway "other hand" is a silly idea, and it is totally not enforceable. There should never be an event that you can do better on by deliberately messing up something else. It is like making a separate right hand OH and left hand OH category. Very silly indeed.

Other Hand? Seriously? There has actually been demand for such an event? From people other than you, I mean? This obviously isn't the official poll, so stop making it "seem" official.
Other Hand? Seriously? There has actually been demand for such an event? From people other than you, I mean? I've seen on some other forums people talking about how they want it as an event. That's why I included it. If you guys want I can redo the poll again, taking out OH and maybe replacing it with a "none" option but then all of the votes so far will be deleted.
Pedro_S (2008-12-28 13:34:19 +0000)
Dude, it's not up to you to make the poll... # 9e2) The proposal to add an event is based on a poll about the popularity of new events. The poll is held each calendar year in January and February, on the forum of the WCA website. # 9e3) The proposal to remove an event is done by selecting the event with a low number of competitors in the previous calendar year. The proposal is made each calendar year in February, on the forum of the WCA website. so we should just wait until next month when Ron (or Tyson or someone else with the "power" to do it) make the official poll(s)
StefanPochmann (2008-12-28 18:57:17 +0000)
But Pedro, why should we wait for the official poll if we can already manipulate it by pushing and promoting our own favourite candidates with biased premature polls?

anders (2008-12-28 22:17:00 +0000)
An interesting starting point would be the unofficial event held: http://www.speedcubing.com/results . The most popular event has had 70 competitors; that is more than some official ones ;) /Anders
good point...let me start a poll with one-handed square-1[/quote:dqb8giit] I second that. I might be able to win one-handed square-1.
Shelley (2008-12-29 02:25:20 +0000)
While we're at it let's throw in Sq-1 BLD. I haven't seen any reliable system for doing it yet, but Takao wants it, and that's good enough for me
