2009 : Events removed

Edouard Chambon (2008-11-25 20:23:56 +0000)
Choose the events you would prefer to be removed (to let new events appear...). You have 2 votes.
removed (to let new events appear...)[/quote:10siu2h0] Why is that necessary?
jbcm627 (2008-11-25 22:10:02 +0000)
Why is there not a "none" option? There should be to see if any events should be removed at all.
Shelley (2008-11-25 23:57:16 +0000)
Only two votes? Can it just be understood that if we want Magic gone we probably also want Master Magic gone, or vice versa?
Bob (2008-11-26 05:28:30 +0000)
damn, can't i vote for 3x3 feet twice?
Pedro_S (2008-11-26 21:32:41 +0000)
I think Magic and Master Magic should be a single option...
blade740 (2008-11-27 11:17:44 +0000)
This poll is highly unfair. If we were to put up a vote that said "which would you prefer to be removed: 3x3 or 2x2?" then 2x2 would be removed with no chance for the people who don't want anything removed to show their vote. You should make a "don't remove any" option on the poll.
BryanLogan (2008-11-27 21:44:56 +0000)
I'm not really sure what this poll is suppose to do. I would think that the WCA Board would post a poll if they wanted input, otherwise just look at our input that's more than a check mark option. With the poll people who don't even compete could be voting when it doesn't affect them at all. It's like putting up a poll that says, "Should we ban closed competitions?"
It's like putting up a poll that says, "Should we ban closed competitions?"[/quote:2qmm78cl] Preferably with a "yes" option but no "no" option.

1) [Magic & Master Magic] - Lame, pointless "puzzles". It's like an event for how fast you can execute a sune. 2) 3x3 Feet - Also lame, and gross. It's kind of embarrassing that people actually take this event seriously...
PatrickJameson (2008-11-29 00:54:11 +0000)
What exactly will this do? The event with the most votes will get removed? I dont think this is very fair. Also, why does magic not have the same votes as MM? Are we going to get rid of magic but not MM? There should definatly be some kind of 'Yes, remove it' and 'No, do not remove it' options for this to work. I'm against removing magic. Even though its the same thing over and over again, its still a puzzle. It actually takes a lot of time analyzing exactly how to position your hands and stuff so you can get the fastest time. Also, magic usually doesn't take very long out of the comp. And of course another reason I don't want magic removed is because i've been practicing to get a WR :D.

9e) New official events may be added each calendar year, and existing official events may be removed. * 9e1) The decision to add or remove an event is made by the WCA Board. * 9e2) The proposal to add an event is based on a poll about the popularity of new events. The poll is held each calendar year in January and February, on the forum of the WCA website. [b:9i98270f][u:9i98270f] * 9e3) The proposal to remove an event is done by selecting the event with a low number of competitors in the previous calendar year. I vote for magic & mastermagic. If could vote again Id do it for clock. These puzzles are not hard related with rubiks cube. I dont understand people voting to remove "rubiks cube with feet" from "rubiks cube" competitions. It has no sense

There may be 57 votes for something to be removed, but there may have been another 50 votes for not removing anything. This should not be a "Most votes gets removed" poll.

If the magic and master magic have only one scrambled state (each) then why are they considered official events? When being solved the same solution is used each time making it so that no logic or thought process is used at all. I know that the reason it is included is because it falls under the “Rubik’s brand” and that rule 9a1 states that all Rubik’s brand puzzles can be an official event. If the WCA is allowing one scramble state puzzles then I would like the Gordian Knot to be an event.

What I meant to say was that the Gordian Knot is A LOT more fun then the magic. It could be a good side event, but I'm not trying to start anything.

We will change the procedure for removing events for Version 2009. We discovered that a poll may be supporting a decision, but it should not be the basis of a decision. Ron
