2009: Website requirement?

What do people think about requiring a website for competitions? I know most people do already, but there are a few that don't. But one thing it does is it gives the media a place to go to get information about a competition. Also, if we require that the website state that the competition is an official WCA competition, with a link to the WCA (and a link to the regulations), it's a way to build the WCA brand recognition. I know Ron has mentioned that registration might be going directly through the WCA website sometime, so really, the minimal that people would need is a free Geocities site.

Or there could be a "quick setup" type page throught the WCA website, so that there is a standard format for all WCA aprroved competition websites.

I don't think a standard format needs to be followed, just some critical bits of information needs to be there, and then allow the organizer to add their own specific information if they need to. I would think that a standard cookie-cutter page wouldn't really work well if it needed to be translated into 15 languages.

I agree that this should be required...and it sort of is in the US right now. I don't believe a competition in the US has been approved without a website in quite some time.

WCA Board already requires a competition website. Do we really need to standardise these websites or have specific requirements for them? Ron
