Some clarifications

I've been asked some questions about WCA competitions and prefer to answer them here for the benefit of others and so that I can be corrected if I'm wrong. [b:3hfcx9ja]1)How is a delegate elected? Does he have to be VERY good in cubing and twisty puzzles?[/b:3hfcx9ja] He needs to be trustworthy and capable to do the delegate job. I'd say the capability requires him to be a fairly good but not necessarily very good cuber. But it's more important to know stuff than to be very fast. [b:3hfcx9ja]2)Do we have to pay for air transport for international delegates watching a competition?[/b:3hfcx9ja] I haven't heard yet of a delegate being paid. I guess if you really need an external delegate it depends on the person. You might find someone to combine a vacation in your area with participating in your competition and being its delegate, and completely pay for himself. However, the organizers should have some experience so the delegate can rely on them being able to do it. It's recommended to hold an unofficial competition first. [b:3hfcx9ja]3)Is the scrambler hidden from the competitors so the other competitors cannot see the scrambler software/scramble/puzzle while scrambling?[/b:3hfcx9ja] Not sure how much this is required, but usually yes. [b:3hfcx9ja]4)Is there is a Judge for every event?[/b:3hfcx9ja] Rule 1d) Each event must have one main judge. [b:3hfcx9ja]5)Do we need to bring more than 1 puzzles?[/b:3hfcx9ja] You don't need more than one of each type (i.e. it's enough to have one 3x3, one 4x4, one...). [b:3hfcx9ja]6)Are we allowed to share puzzles?[/b:3hfcx9ja] I think you are, though it's the competitor's responsibility to be ready when it's his time. Though, how strictly this is enforced depends on the organizers and the time schedule. Obviously you shouldn't delay the competition by a lot. [b:3hfcx9ja]7)Are we allowed to bring our own Stackmats and tournament displays?[/b:3hfcx9ja] Who is "we"? The organizers or the competitors? I don't remember a stackmat/display from non-organizers being used in the competition, but I don't think it's forbidden. And I of course don't know where all the timers come from in each competition, it just appears that the organizers usually organize enough timers. [b:3hfcx9ja]8)In an event, is the same scramble used throughout the number of solves, or each scramble is changed after every solve?[/b:3hfcx9ja] In each round, let's say average-of-5, the same five scrambles are used for everybody. In the next round, new five scrambles are used for everybody. So inside each round everybody gets the same scrambles, but scrambles differ between rounds. [b:3hfcx9ja]9)Are chipped stickers allowed?[/b:3hfcx9ja] Stickers don't need to be perfect, but they shouldn't be terrible, either. If you can easily feel differences, that's not good, especially in blindcubing. In general: Like mentioned above already, it's really recommended to have an unofficial competition first if you don't have experience with competitions yet.

Forgot this one: [b:36fxjzh6]1)How is a delegate elected?[/b:36fxjzh6] Not. It's informal. Anybody can act as a WCA delegate if the WCA board members consider him/her capable and trustworthy.
