Our newly formed WCA Advisory Council (WAC) is looking for members to help with their mission!

What is the WAC and what do they do?
The biggest task of the WAC is to be an intermediary between the community and the WCA Staff - to give the community a voice when important topics are being discussed. The Community Representatives will be a vital part of that process. More information about the main functions of the WAC can be found here: WCA Motion 20.2019.01

The council will have 2 sub-teams - Community Representatives and WCA Representatives. This announcement is for Community Representatives, who will make up the majority of the council and will not be members of WCA Staff, meaning that anyone except WCA Staff can apply. If you have never held a formal position in the WCA before, this an exciting opportunity to contribute towards making the WCA even better!

Dear WCA Community,

Starting from January 2019, the WDC will issue a public overview of its activities every month, in order to give a better perception of the work of the Committee to the Community.
We realize that our work is mostly behind the scenes and that it’s based on confidentiality, which is something that can easily lead to the spreading of false rumors and confusion. The WDC would like to establish a routine in its communication towards the WCA Community, to avoid misunderstanding and disinformation and to provide some insight about its activities.

Dear WCA Community,

Thank you all for another great year for cubing! It has been a successful year for the WCA and we would like to share our achievements of 2018 with you.

Ten new countries held WCA competitions and we welcomed over 25,000 new competitors to the WCA. Throughout the year, 85 world records, 271 continental records, and 4,039 national records were broken.

The greatest change for the WCA as an organization this year was becoming recognized as a non-profit organization in October! We also established two new Teams, the WCA Marketing Team and the WCA Competition Announcement Team whose work helps the WCA run smoothly. Additionally, 53 new Delegates delegated their first competition this year.

Within our Committees and Teams, there have been 1,148 competition results posted by the WCA Results Team, 1,196 competition announcements posted by the WCA Board, the WCA Quality Assurance Committee, and later the WCA Competition Announcement Team, about 27 investigations opened by the WCA Disciplinary Committee, 130 Instagram and 166 Facebook posts published by the WCA Communication Team, and 1,106 pull requests merged by the WCA Software Team! So much to keep up with throughout the year!

With the help of our community, we anticipate more growth and organizational adjustments into 2019. We also look forward to celebrating cubing together at World Championship 2019 in July! Thank you for another great year and for all the volunteers that keep our organization running. We could not do it without everyone’s help and support. Happy New Year!

When TNoodle-WCA-0.14.0 was released last week, we announced that TNoodle-WCA-0.13.5 would briefly remain an officially permitted version. Since a week has passed, TNoodle-WCA-0.13.5 is now officially retired, leaving TNoodle-WCA-0.14.0 as the only official scramble program.

Please see last week's TNoodle-WCA-0.14.0 announcement for details.

Please remember that official competitions must use a current version of the official scramble program. This is always available from:
https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/scrambles/

Announced by Lucas Garron on

TNoodle-WCA-0.14.0 is now available from https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/scrambles/
The following changes have been made since TNoodle-WCA-0.13.5:

  • The generated .zip folder now contains a nested .zip file called ... Computer Display PDFs.zip. This contains the scramble set PDFs, each encrypted with a unique passcode that can be found in ... Computer Display PDF Passcodes - SECRET.txt. Please read the directions at https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/scrambles/#scramble-secrecy if you are a Delegate.
  • The other files in the .zip folder have been rearranged to highlight the existence of the computer display PDFs.

Upcoming competitions should use TNoodle-WCA-0.14.0 to generate new scrambles, when possible.
However, since there are no changes that directly affect competitors since the previous version, TNoodle-WCA-0.13.5 will briefly remain an officially permitted version. (Competition scrambles for the coming week that have already been generated using TNoodle-WCA-0.13.5 can still be used.)

Please remember that official competitions must use a current version of the official scramble program. This is always available from:
https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/scrambles/
