The WCA Software Team (WST) is looking for new members! The applications are open to everyone; it’s not a requirement to hold a current position in the WCA to be considered. The WST plays a central role on the WCA developing, scaling, and maintaining the software solutions that help the organization handle the continuous community growth. Some examples of such software solutions are:

  • A website
  • TNoodle
  • Workbook Assistant

All of the above are open-sourced and can be found on the WCA’s GitHub. The technologies used on these projects is very varied: Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, CSS, MySQL, Chef, React, Java, etc, so developers of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply!

Interested applicants should reach out to Alberto Pérez de Rada Fiol (WST’s Project Manager) at afiol@worldcubeassociation.org with an introduction of themselves that includes their experience as developers. Adding activities done for the WCA and goals as a team member is a plus.

TNoodle-WCA-0.15.0 is now available on the Scrambles page
The following changes have been made, since the previous version:

Changes visible to the regular competitor:

  • Better spacing on FMC cutout sheets.
  • Competitor can fill competition's name on FMC filling sheet.

Changes visible to staff members:

  • Since competitors can fill competition's name on the FMC filling sheet, you can reuse sheets across competitions (in case you got some left).
  • Prevent Multi-Blind from being set to 1 cube (prevent input mistakes).
  • Show a table with rounds and groups for each event when generating scrambles for a competition.
  • Option to print ordered scrambles matching the schedule.

Upcoming competitions should use TNoodle-WCA-0.15.0 to generate new scrambles, when possible. However, since we have just a few changes that directly affect competitors, TNoodle-WCA-0.14.0 will briefly remain an officially permitted version (competition scrambles for the coming week that have already been generated using TNoodle-WCA-0.14.0 can still be used).

Please remember that official competitions must use a current version of the official scramble program. This is always available from:
https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/scrambles/

Our newly formed WCA Advisory Council (WAC) is looking for members to help with their mission!

What is the WAC and what do they do?
The biggest task of the WAC is to be an intermediary between the community and the WCA Staff - to give the community a voice when important topics are being discussed. The Community Representatives will be a vital part of that process. More information about the main functions of the WAC can be found here: WCA Motion 20.2019.01

The council will have 2 sub-teams - Community Representatives and WCA Representatives. This announcement is for Community Representatives, who will make up the majority of the council and will not be members of WCA Staff, meaning that anyone except WCA Staff can apply. If you have never held a formal position in the WCA before, this an exciting opportunity to contribute towards making the WCA even better!
