Appointment of a WCA Advisory Council Leader (January 2019)

There will be an appointment of our first WCA Council Leader. The successful passing of the proposed amendments to the Motions established the WCA Advisory Council through WCA Motion 20.2019.1. The WAC is an Advisory Council of the WCA which is responsible for building and maintaining bilateral communication between the WCA Community and the WCA Staff.

Candidates are expected to fulfill their terms (24 months) and to spend at least 8 hours per week on average to work for the Council. The qualities expected of candidates are:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of the WCA structure
  • A strong connection to the WCA Community

The application period is opened for candidates to submit their candidacy documents until January 31st, 2019, 23:59 UTC privately to the WCA Board (board@worldcubeassociation.org).

The candidacy documents must be in PDF format, and must include:

  1. Brief personal introduction.
  2. Summary of activities done for the WCA Community.
  3. Ambitions as the WAC Leader.

All received applications will be made public at the end of the application period.

The rights and duties of the WAC are copied from the WAC’s Motion in the appendix below.

The week after the application period, the WCA Board will make a selection by voting and will announce the new Leader, as described in Section 4.1 of WCA Motion 20.2019.0.

APPENDIX - RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF THE WCA ADVISORY COUNCIL

  1. The WCA Advisory Council has the following rights and duties:
    1. Establishing communication channels between the WCA Community and the WCA Board, providing direct feedback from Registered Speedcubers about the WCA operations.
      1. The WCA Advisory Council shall ensure that the demands and requests of the WCA Community are heard and addressed by WCA Staff.
    2. Recruiting Community Members who are able and willing to help improve the WCA operations.
    3. Improving and further promoting transparency in the WCA.
    4. Improving bilateral communication between the WCA Community and WCA Staff.
