General

  • Spectating is free and open to the public.
  • Photography and videography will be permitted, however there shall be NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY. This can be very distracting for competitors!
  • During the competition, please stay at least 1.5 meters away from the solving stations. Again, this is very distracting.
  • Schedule is tentative to change
  • If any changes are made to the competition or schedule, they will be clearly announced to all competitors in an email.
  • All competitors will be assigned judging roles. See Judging for more information.
  • Please provide adult supervision for children under 12 years. Thanks!

Team Blind

We will be holding Team Blind at this competition! See more information here.

Showing up to compete!

  • Since you have registered online, there is no need to check in upon arrival. You are free to come at any time during the competition; all we ask is that you are on time for your first event!
  • You will be called up in groups for your event(s). See the Groups tab for more information.
  • If you miss the last call for an event, you will not be able to compete in that event. Missing an event does not bar you from competing in subsequent events (but does bar you from competing in subsequent rounds of events you missed).

To all our first-time competitors, WELCOME!

The cubing community is absolutely awesome, and we hope that you have a great experience competing for the first time! To make this possible, we would like you to know a few things before the big day:

First, please be familiar with the WCA regulations, found here:
https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/regulations/

Make sure to watch this competitor tutorial, which details the competing process for first-timers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPL3eV-A0ww

If you have any questions after this video, we will be having a new competitor tutorial right before 3x3. That would be the perfect time to ask those questions and clear up any confusion.

Q&A:

Q: Do I use my own cube to compete?

A: YES! You are responsible for your own hardware in order to compete.

Q: What is the normal age of competitors at these events?

A: All ages are welcome, but in general competitors are between 10 and 20 years old. Don't let this stop you though, everyone can and should cube!

Q: What is the competition like?

A; Competitions are a bunch of tables where nerds like us get to sit and discuss our favorite thing, Cubes! Of course in addition there is competing, which will occupy one side of the competition hall, where you will see lots of timers flickering with contestants new personal bests. Most competitions have a break for lunch, and the competing is split up into heats, as to better organize who competes when. (Check the Groups tab and listen at the competition for more info on this.)

Q: How do I find results?

A: All results are posted on the WCA page a couple of days after the competition finishes. However, for the day of competing, go to cubecomps to find information about current events. This is also where you will find information about 2nd and 3rd rounds of events.

Q: Why am I not on the registration list yet?

A: Make sure you pay you entrance fee in order to be automatically placed on the registered list, which will also guarantee you a spot in the competition. If payment may be any issue, or you are not sure if you can attend, use the contact button to talk to us, and see if we can work out another payment strategy, or have you pay on arrival at the compeition. No matter what you situation may be however, please register online. It is much easier for us to have you register now and pay later, then to have to input information at another time.

Q: Are there age divisions?

A: Nope! All cometitors compete in the same group.

Overview

Team Blind is an unofficial cubing event that we are hosting at this competition! The solve is accomplished by two cubers - one cuber is blindfolded and holds the cube, and the other cuber is sighted and tells the blindfolded cuber the moves to solve it. This event will be held during the first half of lunch.

Registration

  • If you would like to participate in Team Blind, please fill out this Google Form: Team Blind Sign Up
  • There is a 20 team limit for this event, and spots are secured on a first come first served basis.
  • If you are no longer interested in competing, please let us know.
  • If one or both members of your team are not officially registered for the competition, we reserve the right to revoke your Team Blind registration if there is high demand.

Regulations

Team Blind is an event where two competitors cooperatively solve the 3x3x3 Cube. One competitor, the "caller," communicates which moves to execute to the other competitor, the "solver," who performs the moves.

We will follow the WCA Regulations as best as possible. The relevant changes are:

  • 1) Starting/Stopping the solve
    • 1a) The solver must have a blindfold on before the inspection period begins.
    • 1b) The competitors will be given the usual 15 seconds of inspection with warnings at 8 and 12. Both members may touch the cube during this time and both competitors may communicate.
    • 1c) Only the solver may start/stop the timer.
    • 1d) The usual penalties for starting/stopping the timer apply.
  • 2) During the solve
    • 2a) Unlike blindfold solving, no paper will be placed between the solver and the cube. Because of this, the solver should place the cube so that the blindfold is clearly obstructing the line of sight, but this will not be enforced. We are trusting you to not abuse this rule. This is supposed to be fun.
    • 2b) Both competitors may talk during the course of the solve.
  • 3) Miscellaneous
    • 3a) We will hopefully separate partners to different tables, but, if that is not logistically possible, we expect pairs to make the best effort to not eavesdrop on adjacent teams. Again, we are trusting you not to cheat. This is 100% for fun.
    • 3b) The competitors may switch roles (caller becomes solver and solver becomes caller) in between solves.
    • 3c) The competitors must not communicate with anyone but each other and the judge during the solve.

The format will be an Average of 5 (ao5) with the best and worst times removed and the other three averaged.

Cutoff and time limit: We will have a cutoff of 1:30 and a 3:00 minute time limit for this event. This means that in order to complete the ao5, a team must solve under 1:30 in the first two solves. Any solve over 3:00 is a result of DNF.

All competitors will have a personal event sheet that will also contain their judging roles for the day.

These competitor cards will be released several days before the competition begins.
