Information

Competitors may bring at most one guest. This will be checked at the entrance of the competition. No external spectators are allowed, only those coming with a confirmed competitor will be allowed in the venue.

All attendees (competitors + guests) must show valid proof of at least one of the following two requirements to be allowed in the venue:

1) They are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To clarify, an individual is only considered fully vaccinated if they have received their second dose of a two-dose vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) or their only dose of a single-dose vaccine (J&J) more than two weeks before the competition. Any dose received after Saturday, April 30th is insufficient for entrance to the competition.
OR
2) They tested negative for COVID-19 within 96 hours (4 days) of the competition. The date when the test is conducted is what matters, not the date when the results are received. Any test conducted earlier than Tuesday, May 10th is insufficient for entrance to the competition.

The base registration fee for this competition is $15 (United States Dollar).
If your registration is cancelled before you will be refunded 50% of your registration fee.

Krish Shah-Nathwani won with a mean of 23.33 moves in the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves event. Owen Widdis finished second (26.67) and Mark Boyanowski finished third (28.67).

  • Masks are recommended and will be provided for all attendees along with hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes.
  • Attendees should maintain a minimum of 3ft from others whenever possible.
  • The organizing team strongly recommends receiving a COVID-19 vaccination before competing. For information on, and finding vaccines near you, please use this website!
  • If you have symptoms related to COVID-19 such as cough, fever, shortness of breath, etc. do not attend this competition.
  • If you have had a positive COVID-19 test or prolonged exposure to someone with the virus within 14 days prior to the competition, do not attend.
  • Competitors are strongly encouraged to bring their own pen for the duration of the competition.
  • The competition may be cancelled if the COVID-19 situation in Michigan and/or the US gets worse.
  • By registering for this competition, you agree that you understand all the information presented in this tab, will abide by all the COVID-19 restrictions placed on this competition, and acknowledge the risk of contracting COVID-19 or any other disease in attending an event of this scale.

Note that the only events at this competition are 3x3 Fewest Moves, 3x3 Blindfolded, 4x4 Blindfolded, 5x5 Blindfolded, and 3x3 Multiple Blindfolded. These events tend to be very boring for spectators, and we will not be having the normal speedsolving events that you're used to.

For First-Time Competitors
All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. This video gives a basic overview of the rules. In addition, please read this document before coming to the competition.

If you get off the waitlist, you will receive an email indicating that your registration was approved. If you are still on the waitlist on Monday, May 9th at 7:00 PM EDT, you will receive a full refund of your registration fee.

Room Information: The competition will be taking place at the MSU Union on the third floor in the Lake Superior room. There is a stairwell on the south side of the building that will take you all the way up to the room. I've also attached a floorplan of the building itself if you have any trouble finding it. Travel Options:

Plane: The closest airport is Capital Region International Airport (LAN) and is located about a 15 minute drive away from MSU. Other nearby airports include Bishop International Airport (FNT), Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR), and Detroit Metro Airport (DTW), from which the Michigan Flyer Airport Shuttle offers bus transportation to East Lansing for approximately $30.

Bus: The Capital Area Multimodal Gateway on campus houses the Amtrak Blue Water train stop and three intercity bus services: MegaBus, Greyhound, and Indian Trails. Local CATA bus routes stop at the station, and the facility also offers taxicab and bike-sharing services.

Parking: The Grand River Parking Ramp #6 (449 E Circle Dr, East Lansing, MI 48824) is a short walk from the MSU Union and is the best option for parking. The Grand River Ramp #6 is free on all the levels through Monday. Please be aware that parking in leased spots on the second floor of the ramp or higher is prohibited. For more information on parking visit the MSU Police website and search for ramp #6.

Hotels: The Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center is located on campus. Many other hotels are located in the East Lansing and Lansing area. A list of recommended hotels and inns (including rates) is provided by the MSU Office of the Controller.

Lunch/Dinner: There are several fast food restaurants a short walk from the MSU Union including Potbelly, Panda Express, Chipotle, Noodles and Company, and much more. There are also multiple restaurants within a 5-10 minute driving radius.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
