StackMat Pro Timer in WCA Competitions?

Postby TimMc » Sat Apr 28, 2012 7:53 am

Hello,

A discussion about ordering new competition timers was raised within the RMIT Rubik's Cube Club and Ty (Speed Stacks Australia) informed me that he's happy to do a deal for the new range of: StackMat Pro Timers, colourful mats, and carry bags. Will we be able to use StackMat Pro Timers in WCA Competitions as Generation 2 Timers become unavailable?

Some notes about the StackMat Pro:
  • It's not the same as the Generation 3 Timer (no data port).
  • It's accurate to 0.001
  • It's not backward compatible with the older mats.

If this new timer is to be used, will we simply round up the time in the results spreadsheet?

Tim.

Who is going to do the rounding? The judge who is writing down the time or the person who will input the data in the pc? Or maybe input all 3 digits and let the pc round it?

Is this version of stackmat compatible with the tournament displays we already have?

Not really necessary for the regulation,
But it will cost much if not compatible and we have to invest on new displays.

I sent a message to Speed Stacks Australia the other day to ask this question. I'm waiting for a reply.

The WSSA might not have migrated to the new timers just yet because it appears as though they used Generation 2 timers at their World Championship in April 2012:
