Getting to Campus

Note that if you are coming by public transportation, the Green Line Metro stop is not on campus. You will need to take the Shuttle-UM 104 bus from the stop to campus. Please factor this into to your travel time when planning to come to the venue.

The parking map of UMD shows available parking on campus. During the weekend, there is free parking at all green-highlighted parking lots on this list. Lots B(Regents Parking Garage) and Z are the closest free parking lots near campus.

NOTE: The competition is being held in the Grand Ballroom AND Colony Ballroom, which are in different locations. The Grand Ballroom is Room 1206, which is on the first floor, number 43 on this map. The Colony Ballroom is Room 2203, located on the second floor, number 50, on this map.

ALL COMPETITORS MUST READ THIS TAB BEFORE REGISTERING.

If you are a first time competitor, please read this section carefully. If you are a returning competitor, please skip to the next section.

NEWCOMERS:

There are multiple things a first-timer must know before competing. All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. There is a video here for the basic overview of the rules.

In addition, please read this document before coming to the competition. Huge thanks to Olivér Perge and Niki Placskó for the document!

ALL COMPETITORS:

Please read this section carefully. Changes in organization have been made modeled off of Hungarian competitions in Europe. When you arrive, you will receive a lanyard with personalized information detailing your events and what group you will be competing in for each event. In addition, you will also have staff assignments on your lanyard. Every competitor is expected to help out this competition. The card will look somewhat like the following:

Image description

Legend:
* S - scrambling
* R - running
* J - judging

Please note that everyone is expected to help only during the events they are registered for, and everyone need only help for one group per event. If you do not arrive to help during your scheduled event, and there are not enough staff members, we reserve the right to disqualify you from competing.

There is no official hotel for this competition, and no room blocks will be offered. Below are suggestions for lodging in the area.

There are multiple hotels located on Route 1(Best Western, Hampton Inn, Cambria Hotel, College Park Marriott, and more) located less than five minutes away from the venue.

Private lodging sites such as AirBnB also offer options in the area.

If you are interested in staff, please fill out the following form.

NOTE: ALL COMPETITORS MUST PAY THE $15 REGISTRATION FEE. If you are selected for staff, you will be refunded the registration fee AFTER the competition has ended.

Staff members will be provided with free registration and lunch for both days of the competition. A decision on free accommodation will be made closer to the competition date.

Final staff decisions will be made near the start of February 2019.
